Time Period He lived during the period of Ghaybat us Sughra of our
Imam and was privileged in receiving direct guidance
from the most authentic sources.
He was born in Kulayn which is in
the vicinity of Rey near Tehran.
 Thiqat e Islam
He is also known as Thiqat e Islam (Thiqa is used
for a narrator of Ahadith who is reliable).

He was the first Islamic scholar who have

been awarded the title of "Thiqat e Islam";
which is because he was very pious and
devout, possessed the highest status in
terms of knowledge and virtue, he was
involved in solving the religious problems
of the people. And the people approach
him for their problems and fatwas.
It is said that in Shiites, every century a single person is born that revives
religion.
Muhammad Ibn Yaqoob alkalini was born at the beginning of the third
Hijri and at the beginning of the fourth hijri Syed Murtaza al-Udhi was
born.

‫الکلینی‬
 Muhammad Al-Kulayni travelled to different places in
order to collect these ahadith over a period of 20 years. It
has been reported that when Al-Kaafi was presented to
Imam Al-Mahdi (pbuh) and was approved by the Imam
with the remark that AlKaafi was sufficient for our Shia’.
It is one of the 4 major books of ahadith.
 It consists of 3 parts:

1. Usul 2. Furu 3.Rawdat

Al-Kaafi Al-Kaafi Al-Kaafi

 Usul e Kafi has Ahadith about belief, logic, morality and knowledge
 In Rawdat Al Kaafi , there are ahadith of 12 Imams on different topics.
 Furu e Kafi It serves as a guide to Islamic law covering all aspects of life from
taharah to diyaa (compensation). In all there are 24 books in this section.
‫روضہ کافی‬
 Objection.An objection is raised on the book Al
Kafi that Imam Mehdi (ajfs) has said about it that
this book is sufficient for our shias....Although
there are those ahadith included in the book
which are considered not authentic.
 Response to the objection: Alkalini himself
said that I have compiled the hadiths
according to my capability. Now it is the duty
of the scholars to investigate these hadiths.
 He also laid down a plan for this investigation
(Accept those hadiths which are in harmony with
the Qur'an and reject those that are against the
Quran.)
 Just understand that Muhammad bin Yaqoob
kulayni has collected an ocean of narrations. Now
it is the duty of scholars to select the real pearls
from it and it is the duty of the people to follow and
obey the scholars.
He died in Baghdad in 328/329 A.H at
the age of 60 and is buried there.
When his grave was opened it was seen that his body was
in perfect condition. The ruler of the time then ordered a
great shrine to be built on the grave.
