• Of the total area of 518 thousand hectare in the district, over 44 per cent is cultivable area.
• The major crops of the district are millets, paddy, pulses and oil seeds. Horticulture crops such
as onion, mango is also grown in the district (especially in Dharapuram and Kangeyam taluk
region).

To become the major global garment manufacturing hub; providing good and
quality basic services to the citizens with a sustainable environment
To achieve the vision of the district as mentioned above, the key sectors that need thrust are as
follows:

Establishment of affordable housing facilities for the working population in the district
Setting up of garment research centre with state of art facilities to promote new product
development for diversification
Promote Skill development for workforce in the district
Development of district infrastructure for inclusive growth
Common Warehouse facility for the agro based industry clusters
Establishment of a specialty healthcare centre for the growing population in the district
Setting up of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the industrial progress of the district
and environmental protection
Establishment of recreation and entertainment centers for the working population
Effective implementation of Underground Drainage system and Solid Waste Management plan in
the region
Development of Healthcare infrastructure in the district
Therefore a large scale housing facility should be developed to accommodate the workers. This can include building up of townships, hostels
for working men / women, etc. This should be available at an affordable cost for the workforce in the region. There have been recent
announcements on the housing facility development by central and state government. The process should be started quickly at implemented
within the timeframe.
Targeted Impact
The project is important for the benefit of workforce in Tiruppur district. It would assist in economic growth of the district by attracting
people for settlements in the district. This is crucial for the industry as the textile industry is labour intensive and requires adequate
manpower to support the expansion and growth.
Implementation Strategy The project can be implemented through Housing and Urban Department, Tamil Nadu Housing Board.
The project can be integrated with the ‘Large scale skill development programme’ and ‘Employment linked vocational training programme to school children in the
age group of 14 to 17’ projects envisaged in Tamil Nadu 2023.
Targeted Impact
Area of focus: Training on: Textile and Garmenting manufacturing operation, Textile machinery repair and maintenance, Machinery operation (Milling
industry) and other manufacturing sector
Population benefitted: School drop outs and unemployed youth
Impact generated: Employment generation and skilled workforce availability for the industry
The project shall be operated on a PPP mode with private training provider service. The funding can be met from
various skill development schemes promoted by both central and state government. NIFT TEA Knitwear institute can
Implementation Strategy act as nodal point for the skill development programmes in textiles and monitor the training providers.
The projects would benefit the population of the district and would aid in development of the Social and Economic progress.
The implement of the infrastructure development projects will be taken by the respective departments
such as transport, highways, etc. Tiruppur Corporation will be implementing the projects in the
Corporation area. Partial financing in development and management of community / public toilets
Implementation Strategy through private sector participation (BOT models), NGOs, CSR initiatives will also be explored.
The rice milling and oil milling units in the district would get benefit from the project.
The project can be implemented by Tamil Nadu Agricultural Marketing department from
Implementation Strategy state government funding.
