The visual elements in EFL Course book
what is the visual element?
A visual element is any characteristic that we can see,
which includes; line, shape, direction, size, texture,
color, and value. The principles for using these
characteristics are as follows; balance, gradation,
repetition, contrast, harmony, dominance, and unity.
And what is EFL?
Efl means teaching or learning english in a country where english is not spoken,
this is the correct term and approach.

so, the visual element in efl coursebook is;


Using a variety of teaching aids to explain language meaning and construction
engages students in a topic. Visuals aids are one of these teaching aids which can
be helpful both for practical and for motivational reasons.
Wright (1989) noted that the outside world must be
simulated in the classroom

There are many types of visual such as are pictures,


drawings, photos or images and each has its own kind of
information for the observer. Visuals, for example, "for a
lesson on vacations might include pictures of different
vacations spots"
The Functionality of Visuals Within the Texts
The functionality of the visuals presented within the
texts can be categorized into three categories: Illustrative, Stimulus-Response and Student-Generated.

• Illustrative.
Illustrative visuals have a passive function in a text

• Stimulus-response.
Stimulus-Response visuals are used for specific learning outcomes, which require an active response from the
learner in a spoken, written or kinetic form

• Student-generated.
Student-Generated visuals are defined as those in which the learner has been given the autonomy to select or
create visuals for themselves for use as tools to language learning
DEVELOPING DIGITAL LANGUAGE LEARNING MATERIAL

Multimedia is a medium that consists of a combination of text,


images and sound media. Multimedia along with the
development of computer technology and the Internet, is
widely used to fill web content so that web appearance
becomes more attractive.
 Materials which are based on the ability for hyperlinking across content or application, with
the users creating their own pathways through the material, and in some cases creating
their own material.
 Materials which exploit the potential for layering of content within a page, allowing the user
to selectively reveal or hide content.
 Materials and tools which allow embedding of multimedia content within a single area.
 Materials and tools which allow the user to incorporate voice, video, audio, image and text
within the prccess or product of interaction
 Materials and tocls which harness the potential for instantaneity of feedback.
 Materials and tools which are based on personalized data collection and use
 Materials and tools which allow the user chaice over type and time of content

• Blended learning is a broad and formless term that refers to the


spectrum of teaching modes that combine face to face instruction.
