AIM

The aim of the project is to develop a tool,

using machine learning algorithms to detect
fake news being generated from online
sources.
APPROACH
• Fake news characterised by certain distinct features.
• Relatively frequent use of terms, intended to inspire
outrage.
• Writing style and skill different from that of standard
news.
• Usually related to newly emerging, time critical
events.

CLASSIFICATION :-

• Feature extraction.

• Checking from trusted news sites.

SCOPE
• Acquiring the Data set
– Online data sets published for research purposes.
– Authenticated facts from actual news sources.
– Continuous updating of the data sets through
recent incidences.

• Data Preparation
– NLP techniques, stop words removal, padding
documents, drop missing columns.
SCOPE
• Maching Learning
– Baseline classifiers - Naive bayes and Support
vector machines.
– Bag-of-words model and Tf-Idf weighting scheme,
Dimensionality reduction and feature extraction.
– ‘Semantics’ of the article will also be used for
classification.

• Front End
– Input space for news ‘headlines’, ‘paraphrases’,
articles etc.
– Availability of user login.
– Output result of the news article as REAL or FAKE.
DELIVERABLES

• A software tool to analyse and classify a news

(headline or an article) as REAL or FAKE.

• Utility
– GS (IW)

– GS (Int)

– ADGPI
TIMELINES
• Acquiring the Data set - Dec 2019
(Updating to continue)

• Data preparation - Feb 2020

• Machine Learning Approach - Mar – May 2020

(Trg of the model to continue)

• Front End and Testing - July 2020
