Introduction
• Polymer which emits light.
2. Spin coating
• ITO is placed on spinning apparatus.
• Polymer drops smeared on the surface.
Fabricating (contd.)
3. Depositing
• Samples placed on the electrodes.
• Voltage applied makes the airborne molecules scatter and deposit on the
glass.
4. Testing
• Samples are tested after depositions.
• Done by creating electric potential.
Applications
• Multi or full color cell phone displays
• High definition curved displays
• Lightweight wrist watches
• Roll-up daily refreshable electronic newspapers
• Automobile light systems without bulbs
Advantages
• Require only 3.3v & life time of more than 30,000 hr.
• Low power consumption.
• Self luminous.
• No viewing angle dependence.
• Manufacturing cost is less.
• Can be scaled to any dimension.
• No environmental draw backs.
• Simple to use.
• Very slim flat panel displays.
Disadvantages
• Voltage drops may affect the performance.
• Limited market availability.
• Aging of LEP
• Degradation of luminescence
• Light intensity gradually decreases.
• Disintegrate due to contact with oxygen.
Future Aspects
Polymer-based materials are bringing about a revolution and paradigm shift
in the optoelectronics sector, with far-reaching consequences for applications
in display devices, lighting, sensing and solar energy harvesting.
Already a variety of advanced optical and electronic products based on
conjugated polymers are in the market place ,but in the near future it can also
be used to build transparent and flexible screens. One of its applications can
be “transparent window.”
