MICROCOMPUTER RESOURCES

 Resources made with modern

technology
 Makes teacher’s and learner’s jobs
easier
MICROCOMPUTER RESOURCES

 Hardware- the physical, touchable, electronic and

mechanical parts of a computer system.
Examples of Hardware
Keyboard, mouse, monitor, hard disk,
motherboard, memory and any disk drives.
 Printer- A device that prints text
or illustrations on paper
Advantages of printers Disadvantages

connected to a computer is a way
2. Features. Another significant of encouraging waste. Users may

computer's monitor.
Graphics Tablet-A graphics tablet is an input device used by
artists which allow them to draw a picture onto a computer
screen without having to use a mouse or keyboard.
It is used to annotate, make quick graphics, handwritten
signature and navigate your computer while moving around the
classroom and presentation area.
 Voice Synthesizer- Provides
access to the functionality of an
installed speech synthesis engine
(voice) for Text-to-speech (TTS)
services.
Software- is a program that relies on
the hardware to function.

Types of Computer Software

 System Software
 Application Software

System Software
Consist of a variety of programs that support
the operation of a computer
-Developing programs: simply the
programming environment by hiding machine level
complexity
-running programs: enable efficient use of
hardware by sharing.
The Five Types of Systems Software
The five types of systems software, are all designed to control and
coordinate the procedures and functions of computer hardware.
They actually enable functional interaction.
1. Operating system: Harnesses communication between hardware,
system programs, and other applications.
2. Device driver: Enables device communication with the OS and
other programs.
3. Firmware: Enables device control and identification.
4. Translator: Translates high-level languages to low-level machine
codes.
5. Utility: Ensures optimum functionality of devices and applications.
n between hardware, software and the user.
Application Software Type Examples
Word processing software MS Word, WordPad and Notepad
Database software Oracle, MS Access etc
Spreadsheet software Apple Numbers, Microsoft Excel
Multimedia software Real Player, Media Player
Presentation Software Microsoft Power Point, Keynotes
Customer relationship management
Enterprise Software
system
Documentation tools, resource
Information Worker Software
management tools
Dictionaries: Encarta, Britannica
Educational Software Mathematical: MATLABOthers: Google
Earth, NASA World Wind
Simulation Software Flight and scientific simulators
Accessing content through media players,
Content Access Software
web browsers
Application Suites OpenOffice, Microsoft Office
Software for Engineering and Product
Development
There are two different types of modem:

1. Ethernet modems that plug into the

network card in the computer, and
wireless modems that connect to a
computer using a wireless LAN (WLAN).
Some modems offer dual Ethernet and
USB connection.
2. Routers with integrated ADSL modem.
 Mouse and Trackball- is a
computer cursor control device used in
many notebook and laptop computers. The
trackball is usually located in front of
the keyboard toward the user.

Here is a list of the several types of computer mice

which have been relatively used by all computer users to
suit their needs.
• Touchpad
• Trackball
• Optical Computer Mouse
• Optomechanical Computer Mouse
• Mechanical Computer Mouse
• 3D Mouse
 Networks- A network consists of two or more computers that are
linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs),
exchange files, or allow electronic communications.
Two very common types of networks include:
 Local Area Network (LAN)-is a network that is confined to a relatively
small area.
 Wide Area Network (WAN)-connect networks in larger geographic
areas
Joy Stick- A joystick is an
input device that can be used
for controlling the movement
of the cursor or a pointer in a
computer device.
Types of Joysticks

Digital Joysticks Paddle Joysticks Analog Joysticks

PC Analog Joysticks Joypads

Scanner- A scanner is a digital
device that converts films,
documents and photographic
prints to digital images. It scans
documents, which can be sent to a
computer, printer, flash drive or
email address.
Touch Window-A feature in
Microsoft's Windows 7 operating
system that enables users with a
touchscreen to simply point at what they
want and move things around with their
fingers
Generalization
Enumerate the
examples of
microcomputer
resources.
Application
What is the importance
of microcomputer
resources in generation
today?
Evaluation
Give at least 2 types of
microcomputer resources
and its examples.
Assignment
 In a ½ sheet of paper answer the following:
1. What are the resources made with modern technology?
2. It is an input device used by artists who allow them to draw a picture onto a
computer screen without having to use a mouse or keyboard.
3. It is a hardware networking device that converts data to a signal so it can be easily
sent and received over a phone line, cable, or satellite connection.
4. A device that prints text or illustrations on paper.
5. The physical, touchable, electronic and mechanical parts of a computer system.
6. It is an input device that can be used for controlling the movement of the cursor or
a pointer in a computer device.
7. It is a program that relies on the hardware to function.
8. A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share
resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic
communications.
9. It connects networks in larger geographic areas.
10. It is a network that is confined to a relatively small area.
