RAY OPTICS

BY :- T.SARVESH
Reflection Of Light
• It is the phenomenon of bending of light which
sends back the light to the same medium without
any apparent change.
• The boundary can be a rigid surface or just an
interface between two media.
Laws Of Reflection
(1)The incident ray, reflected ray, normal to
the point of incidence all lie in the same
plane.
(2)The angle of incidence is equal to angle of
reflection., <i = <r

REFRACTION
• It is the phenomenon of bending of light when
it passes from one medium to another medium
Refractive Index
• It is the number that shows how far the
light ray can be refracted from the point of
incidence to the point of refraction.
n21= n1/n2
=sin i/sin r
n=c/v
Total Internal Reflection
• When a ray of light travels from denser to
rarer medium, when the angle of incidence is
beyond the critical angle, the entire light is
reflected back to the same medium, this
phenomenon is known as total internal
reflection.
Mirage
• A mirage is a naturally
occurring optical phenomenon
in which light rays bend to
produce a displaced image of
distant objects.
Dispersion Of Light
• It can be defined as spitting of white light
when it passes through a glass prism into
its constituent spectrum of colors.

Simple Microscope
• A microscope in an instrument used to see
objects that are too small for the naked eye.
• A simple microscope is a optical microscope
which uses light to image the sample.
Compound Microscope
• A compound microscope is a instrument that
is used to view magnified images of small
objects on a glass slide.
Astronomical Telescope
• A optical instrument designed to make
distant objects appear nearer,
containing an arrangement of lenses by
which rays of light are collected and
are magnified.
• Astronomical telescope is used to see
objects in space clearly.
Casegrain’s Telescope
• The Cassegrain reflector is a combination of a
primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror, often
used in optical telescopes and radio antennas, the main
characteristic being that the optical path folds back onto itself,
relative to the optical system's primary mirror entrance
aperture.
