Introduction
 Water is one of the most essential natural resource
that has been gifted to the mankind.
 The water quality monitoring is necessary to identify
any changes in water quality parameters from time-
to time to make sure its safety in real time.
 The water quality measuring system that we have
implemented checks the quality of water in real time
through various sensors to measure the quality of
water.
 This system can keep a strict check on the pollution
of the water resources and ensure safe drinking of
water.

Problem Statement & Descriptions
 The rapid development of numerous human activities
causes the contamination of water.
 The conventional method of testing water quality is to
gather samples of water manually and send to the lab to
test and analyze.
 CPCB has established a series of monitoring stations to
monitor the water quality on yearly basis but it is
important to monitor the water on regular basis.
 This method is time consuming, wastage of man power,
and not economical.

Literature Review/ Alternate
Solutions
CPCB,2011[1] has planned to go hi-tech and plans to
establish ‘Real Time Water Quality Monitoring (WQM) Network’ across
Ganga Basin.
Stephen Brosnan, 2007 [2] investigated a wireless sensor
network (WSN) to collect real time water quality parameters (WQP).
Quio Tie-Zhn, 2010 [3] developed online water quality
monitoring system based on GPRS/GSM. The information was sent by
means of GPRS network, which helped to check remotely the WQP.
Kamal Alameh, 2011 [4] presented web based WSN
for monitoring water pollution using ZigBee and WiMAX
networks. It is applicable for large distance water monitoring.
Vaishnavi V and Daigavane,2015 [5] demonstrated the
the collection of in-situ environmental data over a period of 12
months and compared the measured parameters for finding
excess of chemicals.

Dong He, 2012 [6] developed arduino based water
monitoring system using microcontroller with GPRS and GPS
module.
Kulkarni Amruta, 2013 [7] created solar powered
WQM utilizing remote sensor network. It uses ZIGBEE module with
sunlight baseboard.

quality monitoring system”..The data is processed by microcontroller.
At last data from the sensors is viewed in the web server.

Objectives

 Our proposed system employs use of multiple

sensors to measure the parameters (pH, conductivity,
temperature, turbidity) and measures the quality of
water.
 This process is economical, accurate, and required
less manpower.
 This system is designed for continuous onsite sensing
and real time reporting of water quality data where
the officials can access the data through internet.
 Therefore, we can predict the possible diseases
based on the measured water parameters.

Existing methodologies to solve the
problem
 Using individual sensors to monitor and measure the
water quality. This needs to be done manually.

 Chemical analysis. The sample should be taken to the

laboratories and analyzed using some chemical methods.

 Real time water quality monitoring.(proposed)

Proposed architecture to solve the
Problem
 This solution provides real time monitoring of water
quality and prediction of diseases using IOT environment .
 To measure the water quality, pH sensor, turbidity sensor,
temperature sensor and conductivity sensor are
connected to a core micro processor.
 The micro processer accesses the sensor value and
transfer the data through internet using wifi module.
 The quality of water can be accessed at anytime anywhere.
 This system provides combined analysis of water quality
parameters by integrating various sensors.

Applications of Engg. Principles
 Research – using scientific and chemical nature of
water in the particular environment is analyzed and
threshold value of quality is fixed.
 Development – based on the research results, the
product is developed which satisfies all the
requirements.
 Design – the system is designed in an efficient
manner which safeguards the device from chemical
reactions and other environmental hazards.
 Integrity – there will be a periodical checking of
device status by the official.

Social Relevancy & Impact on
Environment
 Water pollution is one of the biggest fears for green
globalization.
 Contaminated water can transmit diseases such as
diarrhea, cholera, typhoid and polio. Nearly 485000
deaths occur per year due to this issue.
 In order to ensure supply of safe drinking water, the
system monitors the quality of water in real time.
