1. The first study was conducted in Medan by Jenny
Arista in 2018 entitled “Improving the Students’
Speaking Skill Through Hot Potato Game At the
Second Grade of Senior High School Students”.
2. The next relevant study is conducted by Desti
Aryani, Ujang Suparman, and Deddy Supriyadi
from Universitas Lampung in 2010 entitled “The
Effect of Jcross Game on Speaking achievement at
the Second Grade of Muhammadiyah”.
3. The third research is written by Kartika Sari from
Makasar in 2017 entitled “Using Hot Potato
technique to teach extensive speaking skills at the
second-grade students of Senior High School
Number 3 Takalar”
Action Hypothesis

The researcher proposes the hypothesis that


there is any enhancement on students’
speaking skill after being taught by using JCross
in Hot Potato Tool.
Chapter 3
Research Method
Type of the Research

• This Research Uses Quantitative Research


• Quantitative research use some statistical
calculation to calculate the data.
• This research will apply the Classroom
Action Research (CAR).
• In this research, the researcher will use the
teacher of the subject as the observer.
Setting of the Research

• The researcher will conduct this research for the


Tenth Grade students in the Technic and Computer
Network Program (X TKJ) of Vocational School
Number 1 Tanjungpinang.
• It located at Jl. Pramuka, Number 6, Kelurahan
Tanjung Ayun Sakti, Kecamatan Bukit Bestari, Kota
Tanjungpinang, Provinsi Kepulauan Riau.
• The total number of the student in this class are 25
students.
• This research will be conducted in November until
December 2019 in the academic year 2019/2020.
Subject of the Research

• The researcher will involve the tenth-grade


students in the Technic and Computer
Network Program (X TKJ) at Vocational
School 1 Tanjungpinang in the academic
year 2019/2020.
• It consist of 25 students (18 boys students
and 7 girls students). They are about 17 –
18 years old.
Research Procedure
• The researcher will use Classroom
Action Research (CAR). There will be
two cycles in this action research.
– Pre-Cycle
– Cycle 1 - Cycle 2
• Planning I Planning II
• Acting Acting II
• Observing Observing II
• Reflecting Reflecting
The activities in each cycles will be
described as follows:

Technique of Collecting Data
• This research will have two kinds of data
collection in this classroom action research.
• They are quantitative and qualitative data.
1) The quantitative data is the finding of the
students’ ability in speaking skill in the form
of mean score that will be taken from pre-
test and post-test in each sections.
2) The qualitative data will be taken from the
observation at the classroom.

The researcher will ask the students to work in pairs.
The researcher will give to the students one topic. The
topic is about “Computer Technology”. Then the
researcher ask the students to share ideas with their
pairs. Then they must create a conversation.
 Post-Test
The researcher will give the students an individual Task
by Using JCross. It will use to know the students skill in
guess each words about a topic related with their
program.

Technique of Analyzing Data
• To know the result of students’ speaking
skill test, the test will be analyzed by using
two stages as follows .
1. Correcting and marking the students’
performance by using Speaking Rubrics
2. Analyzing the score by using the formula .
