HYMN
SURIGAO DEL SUR HYMN
Surigao del Sur our land and our home
Constant source of light and of love
In the warmth of your bosoms
Our dreams to you we share
Golden land of the strong and the free.

Surigao del Sur sweet name we adore

One voice we sing thy hymn
In the deeds of thy children thy glory we
proclaim
Hail to thee sunkissed land by the sea

Refrain:
Rolling hills and dales and mountain so high
Reaching out to the sky
In the warmth of your bosoms
Our faith to you we pledge
Hail to thee blessed land from above

POEM
Haikus about the Enchanted
River (A summer destination in
the Philippines)
The Haikus
I. III.

Clear...deep...enchanting Fishes are swimming

I remember the river Towards the hidden abyss
Precious emerald.... Farewell to the sun...

II. IV.

Leaves falling gently The water is cool

Create delicate ripples Allow me to take a dip
On my mind, yearning. Wash away my filth...
V.

Beautiful river...
Continue to flow freely
Your drift is your song....
‘Arrest Lianga massacre perpetrators’
By DEE AYROSO
Bulatlat The massacre shocked the nation and spurred the
campaign “Stop Lumád Killings,” which gained
nationwide and international support. But a year
later, the arrest warrant against the perpetrators, the
military-backed Magahat-Bagani paramilitary group,
are yet to be served, while the communities they
have threatened had suffered at the evacuation site
in Tandag City.

“We want Gen. Dela Rosa’s commitment

in making sure that the Lumad can go
home safely by arresting Calpet Egua,
Loloy Tejero, Bobby Tejero, Margarito
Layno and 32 other AFP goons who
killed our leaders.”
Back in Their Homes,
Manobos of Surigao Face
Another Threat By CHERYLL D. FIEL
Barely a month after the Manobos went back to
their homes in Lianga, the soldiers are back
again, recruiting them to the Task Force
Gantangan, a paramilitary group to fight the
government’s war against the insurgents.

DAVAO CITY — After one month and 13 days at the

evacuation camp, the Manobo evacuees finally went
home to Lianga on August 30. Aboard a convoy of 40
trucks to barangay Diatagon, the Lumads left the grounds
of the Diocese of Tandag that served as their evacuation
camp.
But barely a month after coming home, the soldiers are
back again, recruiting them to the Task Force Gantangan,
a paramilitary group to fight the government’s war against
the insurgents.
Benedictine sisters call for justice
for Surigao Sur massacre
By ANNE MARXZE D. UMIL
Bulatlat.com

“Where is the so-called daang matuwid?”

MANILA – “All they want is to have access to education

and this is what they get.”
This was the lament of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters
of Tutzing who joined the call for justice for the Sept. 1
killing of Lumad leaders and a tribal school administrator
in Surigao del Sur.

Education has been the mission of the Benedictine

sisters, said Marquez. That is why the SSC and the sisters
of Benedictine have committed themselves to help the
Lumad community in Surigao del Sur in any way they can.
