the Earth. Minerals
are usually solid,
inorganic, have a
crystal structure, and
form naturally by
geological processes.
STATISTICS OF MINERALS
• Php134.61 Billion - total production value of
metallic minerals as of 2014

PRIMARY MINERAL COMMODITIES

(estimated value produced as of 2014)
Nickel – Php 80.95B
Gold – Php 32.97B
Copper – Php 22.76B
NICKEL
• Can be found in
Zambales, Palawan,
Agusan Del sur and
Surigao Del sur
• It belong to the transition
metals and is hard and
ductile
• Commonly used for
money coins

Masbate, Surigao and
Masara
• Commonly used for
jewelrys

Philippines in Tampakan,
South Cotabato. Tampakan
represents one of the largest
copper resources in the
Philippines.
IRON
• Iron , one of the Philippines’
largest mineral deposits, is not
being extracted at present.

• It is use to manufacture steel and

also used in Civil Engineering like
reinforced concrete and etc.
Lead
• Lead is very abundant in the
Philippines and it is used in
variety of industrial
applications. Lead is one of
the cheapest minerals to
come out from mines.

Marinduque, Masbate,
Siquijor, Zamboanga del Sur,
Agusan del Norte

• It is the most important

mineral in producing steel
and aluminum alloy.

bullion coins, sometimes
alongside gold, while it is
more abundant than gold, it
is much less abundant as a
native metal.
ALUMINUM

• Aluminum and its alloys are

vital to the aerospace
industry and important in
transportation and building
industries, such as building
facades and window frames.
CHROMITE
• Can be found in South
Luzon, Zambales and
North Luzon
• Commonly used in Metal
additive and chemical use
• Added in metal because of
its hardness and allows
less oxidation and
corrosion to metal
PLATINUM
• Can be found in
Zambales, Samar islands
and Cebu
• Used by different
industries especially by
jewelry.
IMPORTANCE OF MINERAL
RESOURCES
• They provide raw materials to the primary,
secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy
• Exportation from our country
THREATS MINERAL RESOURCES
FACES TODAY
