Introduction
3

 Pedestrian crossing: Area of road designated specifically for

the people to cross a section of road safely.

 Uncontrolled intersection is one of them.

 Uncontrolled intersection: where no traffic lights, road

markings or signs are used to indicate the right-of-way.

 Provides opportunity for the pedestrians to cross the

intersection.

Summary of Literature Review
8

 The pedestrian road crossing behaviour depends on many

parameters i.e. pedestrian age, gender, pedestrian crossing
speed, vehicle type, vehicle speed, weather conditions etc.

 Average travel time delay of both pedestrians and vehicles

increased exponentially with increase in vehicle volume

 Significant difference between pedestrian walking speed

and crossing speed.

 Most of them were related to either homogenous conditions

or signalized intersections.
Objectives
9

 To determine the effect of vehicle type on pedestrian

safety at uncontrolled intersections in mixed traffic
conditions.

 To analyse the effect of pedestrian age and gender on

travel time delay at uncontrolled intersections in mixed
traffic condition using microsimulation.

 To develop a model for pedestrian-vehicle interaction at

uncontrolled intersections in mixed traffic conditions.
