INTRODUCTION

• This research is made to determine if the compressive strength of concrete

cement will increase if we use the extract of okra and aloe vera as an admixture.
• The higher the viscosity of the liquid extract used as an admixture, the higher the
compressive strength will increase. It is important to choose the best admixture to
strengthen concrete cement to produce a stronger infrastructure.
• By computing the right amount of admixture added in concrete cement should
maximize the strength of concrete and bring to its full potential.
INTRODUCTION

• The main objective of this research was to determine if it will increase the
compressive the strength of the concrete with aloe vera and okra extract as
an admixture.
• With a limited time, the researchers cured 12 samples of mixture for 7 days
before the testing.
METHODOLOGY

• In producing the extracts:

• the okra extract was cut into several pieces and water was put and cooked in
order to produce an extract. After the okra is cooked, it was then put into a
sieve in order to get the extracts produced from the okra.
• The aloe vera was manually extracted by peeling the thorns and the leaf of
the aloe vera in order to obtain the gel-like extract.
METHODOLOGY

• The researchers made 4 batches of concrete mix containing 15% aloe vera
and okra mixture, 30% aloe vera and okra mixture, and 45% aloe vera and
okra mixture, a 0% standard concrete mixture for reference.
• Curing time should be for 28 days, but given the remaining time on the
semester, the researchers only cured the samples for 7 days.
• After curing for 7 days, the samples were taken to a laboratory where a
Universal Testing Machine is used for testing concrete
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

• Every biopolymer concrete samples measured the weight inside the UTM
laboratory.
• The weight of every biopolymer concrete sample were almost the same or
where practically the same
• Upon testing, the force applied in the concrete cylinder samples and upon
breaking, the concrete cylinder samples have a different break force.

Volume of Admixtures (ml)

• The chart showing that the regression line is going upward,

it is prove that the compressive strength is increasing when
the admixture is increasing.
Thus, we can say that the biopolymer concrete cylinder is stronger
than the normal concrete cylinder.
CONCLUSION

• Based on the results and observations, it can be concluded that the

biopolymer concrete cylinder has the higher compressive strength
compared to the normal concrete cylinder.
• Aloe Vera and the okra extract helps the concrete cylinder for having a high
compressive strength because of the consistency of the two admixtures.
• Based on the graph, as the volume of admixture increases, the compressive
strength also increases. It is concluded that the volume of admixture and
the compressive strength is directly proportional.
RECOMMENDATION

• Many researches have been conducted to find an alternative admixtures

concrete to benefit the construction industry in the Philippines. But with the
given time on the semester, the scope of this research is just limited. This
research only used okra and aloe vera extracts as an admixture. The
researchers recommend testing other plants for more samples. If given
enough time, it is recommended to cure the samples for 28 days for the
maximum compression strength. It also recommended to compare the
results to other bio-admixture to see if the results are better and more
efficient.
