Past Simple and Present Perfect Tense
 Use of Present Perfect:
 talking about finished actions in a time
period continuing up to now; time
expressions today, this week, this year…)
 Experiences in our lives when we don’t say
when they happened; adverbs never, ever,
already - before the main verb, yet- in
negative sentences and questions, at the end

 We haven’t had a test for ages.
 England haven’t won the World Cup since
1966.
 It’s ages since we last had a test.
 1966 was the last time E. won the World
Cup.

Structures with for, since and last
 Present Perfect- used when we say something
hasn’t happened for a long time or since a
particular time in the past.
 Past Simple- used when we say it’s a long
time since something happened or when we
refer to the last time something happened.
 It’s a long time____ we had a party.
 We haven’t seen Robert ____ two months.
