Prepared by: KrizDawn Causing

Matthew 21:28-32
28 But

what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he
came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my
vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he

repented, and went.

30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he

answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

31 Whether of them obeyed the will of his father? They say

unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say
unto you, That the tax collectors and the harlots go into
the kingdom of God before you.
Verse 28

Man – Lord (Jesus)

Two sons – 2 classes of people
Vineyard - Church
“…and he came to the first,
and said…”

 Denotes two distinct principles of the divine love
and divine wisdom.

 Before God can address man to advantage with His

divine wisdom, He must first come and move man’s
affection by the presence of divine love.
“…go work to day in my
vineyard”

Isaiah 5:7 “The vineyard of the Lord of Hosts
is the House of Israel”

Working in the church is the result of

cherishing the principles of heavenly truth
from Jesus Christ, who is the true vine.
“…go work to day in my
vineyard”

Important duty binding on all the children
of men, as implying a life in conformity to
the truth, signified by the term go, and
also cooperation with Jesus Christ in
opposing those affections, appetites, and
passions, which are contrary to the truth,
signified by the term work.
They ought to cherish in their
minds the principles of
heavenly life, by casting away
all worldly principle, and thus
rendering themselves
receptive of the divine love
and the divine wisdom. (love,
grace, judgment)

his father’s requirement.

2. Will of the son is not opposed to the father’s

command.
Reply of the 1 st son:
I will not:

but afterward he repented, and went

2 Sons = 2 classes of people

1. Principled in an obedient will but not so much
in enlightened understanding;

2. Possession of an enlightened understanding but

is deficient in the point of obedience.
Mankind may be
referred to two classes:
 Knows their duties but  Has the will to do the
does not practice them. duty but has no
knowledge about it.
 Possess the light but is
not willing to shine.  New in faith but very
convicted spread God’s
 Has the skills/talents but light through actions
not willing to work
 Not very talented/skilled
but very willing to help
Deeds count, not words.

Profession without
practice is hypocrisy.
Christ tells us -

Let us work in his vineyard today with
an obedient spirit whether we are
skilled or not, professional or not,
expert in the Bible or not.

Our OBEDIENCE to our

COMMISSION is what Christ asks
from us.
