of individuals, on the same team work together to accomplished an ultimate goal which is to win. Volleyball originally known as "mintonette" In 1895 it was William C. Morgan, director of Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) who developed the game in Holyyoke, Massachusetts for businessmen. a game with a blend element of basketball, baseball, and tennis. where in it only requires less physical contact than other ball game. During a demonstration game, a professor from Springfield College remarked to Morgan that the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net and proposed the name of "volleyball" The first volleyball net, borrowed from tennis, was only 6’6″ high (though you need to remember that the average American was shorter in the nineteenth century). The offensive style of setting and spiking was first demonstrated in the Philippines in 1916. Over the years that followed, it became clear that standard rules were needed for tournament play, and thus the USVBA (United States Volleyball Association) was formed in 1928. THE GAME there are six positions on the court. Players get to play all six positions. Each time the team gets the ball back to serve, the players rotate one position clockwise. The player in the right back position, gets to be the next server. Each team is allowed up to three hits to return the ball, however the third hit must put the ball over the net.
