Lean to roof are simplest type of pitched roof
There are two types of lean to roofs 1) Single lean to roof 2) Double lean to roof 1) lean to roof - It is a single slope roof with upper edge supported by a wall and lower edge with a wall or a pier - Its a free standing structure, usually supported by a wall at the angle of 30 degrees - Length of the this roof is suitable for a maximum span of 2.5 meters - This roof is not adequate for long span where it’s width is more as minimum clearance of 2.0 to 2.5 at eaves level is needed - Wall plate is supported by 2 bricks courses or corbel stones Components of lean to roof Wall plate - It is a timber laid horizontally in or on a wall as support for the rafter Batten - A long flat strip of squared timber used to hold things in place Common rafter - One of the series of rafter of uniform size regularly spaced along the length of a pitched roof with one edge attached to wall plate Eaves board - An arris fillet nailed across the rafter at the eaves of the building in order to raise the starter course of slates or tiles Roof covering - It is the visible part of the system and makes up the majority of waterproofing and protection 2) Double lean to roof (pent or v-roof)
