PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

• IS THE PROBLEM WORTH SOLVING?

Ever since man discovered fire, grilling has become a common method of
cooking food. Grilling is a procedure of cooking where direct heat is applied to
the surface of the food. The most usual way of grilling is charcoal grilling
where lump charcoal or charcoal briquettes serve as the source of heat or as
the fuel.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

• IS THE PROBLEM WORTH SOLVING?

Grilling is a great method of cooking food, but it has disadvantages that
are hazardous to humans and to the environment. It produces fumes that
contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s). PAH is also found in
cigarette smoke and in the exhaust from automobiles; it is considered
dangerous to the human body.
Existing Solution

At present, most of the grilling restaurants such as “samgyupsal”

restaurants have proper ventilation through the use of exhaust fans. The
exhaust fans used in these restaurants are installed in the establishments.
These exhaust fans are not applicable for those street vendors who sell grilled
food.
Solution for the Problem

Our product is a type of exhaust fan that can be installed in grills that are
commonly used by street vendors. This exhaust fan is powered by a stirling
engine which moves because of the difference in temperature. Basically, the
fuel in this engine is the heat coming from the charcoal grills. Also, this
exhaust fan has an air filter that can minimize the production of polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.
