PRIVACY:
• Privacy is not something that I am merely entitled to;it is an absolute pre-requisite.
• There are two dimension of personal privacy
• 1) personal space
• 2) Informational privacy
WHY ARE PRIVACY ISSUES IMPORTANT?

• Keeping a clear physical distance from your colleagues.


• You have no choice but to learn, respect and be sensitive to them if you want
to do business with those cultures.
• You should stay on any legal current developments in your client countries.
• Such legal aspects of privacy like: 1) maturation of e-business & 2) After the
telecom revolution.
PHYSICAL SPACE
• There is a greater sensitivity of physical space in the USA than in India.
• Some examples are given below:
• Americans,by and large,stand farther from you when they talk to you.
• The handshake is reserved only when you first meet someone or when you meet
them after a long gap or when congratulations are in order.
• In restaurant Americans tend to sit far from other guests and never share a table
with strangers.
• In India, people sharing restaurant tables.
• Even in crowded places, Americans tend to protect their private space.
• Even while driving, Americans maintain a ‘space’ around their car.
IN SHORT, THE MAIN TERMS REGARDING
PHYSICAL SPACE
• 1) Maintaining physical distance
• 2) Respecting your colleague’s office space
• 3)Not borrowing or requesting to share your colleague’s personal belongings
• 4) Not using his computer
• 5) Not visiting his home, unless invited specifically
INFORMATIONAL PRIVACY
• You no need to know enough about cyber-security and how to protect
everyone’s confidential data from such attacks.
• Just what personal information is considered private and needs to be kept
under wraps? We give a list of such items below and we would like to
emphasize that this list is by no means complete.
• A) Date of birth,age
• B) Marital status, romantic life, children and family
• C) Salary, property, jewellery, financial transactions
• D) Phone numbers and addresses
• E) Health parameters
• F) Religion orientation
• G) Educational qualifications, resumes
• H) Marks, grades, annual performance
• I) Reason for their absence
• J) Political orientation and views
HOW TO LIVE IN A PRIVACY BASED WORKPLACE

• Get over the misconception that there is nothing wrong about getting other people’s
personal information.
• By doing such things you are not only being disrespectful of others privacy,but may
actually be violating some laws
• 1) Use the correct way of building profiles on people at work

• 2) Give evasive or curt answers to curious cats

• 3) Let the topics evolve naturally, don’t force them


• 4) Leave the other person alone if that is their wish.

• 5) Never assault other people’s sound space.

• 6) Be careful about your personal information.


ORGANIZATIONAL PRIVACY AND PROPRIETARY
INFORMATION
• Not just people,even organisations have their privacy and proprietary
information.
• Some points to be remember when organisational privacy should be their
• a) Don’t discuss business details with family members
• b) Don’t spread information about company decisions,project status,etc.
• c) Don’t discuss company’s future plans
• d) View customer data as sacred
• e) Protect your company’s intellectual properties
• f) Guard privileged information
• In summary :
• Equally important is to care for and safeguard your customer’s personal data and
your organization’s business secrets and intellectual properties.
