Sport

What does one

need to know in
playing sports?
In playing any type of sports, it
is important to have focus,
clear understanding of the
game, and work ethics in
mastering the skills.
Important aspects to consider in learning a
sport are:
1. HISTORY - the inventor of the sport, country of
origin, and development of the game.
2. COURT DIMENSION / VENUE - where the
games are played (indoor, outdoor, or both),
size different designs for Male or female, and
safety procedures for the players.
3. EQUIPMENT AND GEAR - proper protective
gears, uniforms, and outfits which also involve
safety of players and the officials.
4.TECHNICAL AND TACTICAL SKILLS - technical
skills are the basics of playing the game (e.g.,
basketball - dribble, shoot, pass) while tactical
skills are the strategies to take advantage
during the game.
5. RULE OF THE GAME - set of rules on how the
game is played, violations, penalties, how to
score points, how many players allowed, etc.
6. OFFICIATING - officials of the
game, their duties and
responsibilities of calling for
violatios, penalties, points, etc.
and regulating fair play.
SOFTBALL
- Softball is a game similar to baseball
played with a larger ball on a field that has
base lengths of 60 feet, a pitcher's mound
that ranges from 35–43 feet away from
home plate, and a homerun fence that is
220 feet away from home plate. It was
invented in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois,
United States as an indoor game.
SOFTBALLS EQUIPMENT
Bat
 The shape of the bat is like a cylinder and its
diameter is 6 inches.
 The length of the bat varies but it cannot be
greater than 86 cm.
 The diameter of the barrel is 2¼ inches.
 The weight of the bat is 1.2 kilograms..
Gloves

 the size of the gloves cannot exceed

36 centimetres.
 there are normally different size of
gloves available for players at
different positions on the field.
Uniform
 include helmets, head bands, visors, caps,
shoes, shocks, shirt and pant, tight sliding
undershorts etc.
 For female players, uniforms like
headbands and caps are optional.
 mandatory for male players but those who
wear a helmet are not required to wear
headbands or caps.
SOFTBALLS TECHNICAL
SKILLS
1. Throwing

- a track and field event used as a

substitute for more technical throwing
events in competitions involving
Youth, Paralympic, Special Olympics
and Senior competitors.
2. Catching

- In softball, like most sports, catching the

ball is one of the fundamental aspects of
playing.By working on watching the ball,
moving and keeping a good stance,
positioning yourself in front of the ball, and
adjusting to fly balls and grounders.
3. Fielding Flyballs and Ground Balls

- Fielding in the sport of cricket is the action

of fielders in collecting the ball after it is
struck by the batsman, in such a way either
to limit the number of runs that the
batsman scores or to get the batsman out
by catching the ball in flight or running the
batsman out.
4. Playing Catcher

- Catcher is a position for a baseball or

softball player. When a batter takes
his/her turn to hit, the catcher crouches
behind home plate, in front of the (home)
umpire, and receives the ball from the
pitcher.
5. Pitching

- The pitcher throws, or pitches, the ball

from the pitcher's mound. He or she must
always stand with both feet on the
pitcher's rubber - a rectangular area on the
mound - when making the pitch. The
rubber and the mound are all on level
ground.
6. Batting

- A team sends one batter out to the field

at a time. The batter competes against the
entire opposing team, which will strategise
in a bid to prevent the batter from getting
to the bases before the ball does. The
game begins with the batter hitting the
ball, thrown by the pitcher, with a bat.
7. Baserunning

- Baserunning is probably one of the most

under-coached elements of fastpitch
softball. That’s a shame, because smart
baserunning can turn the tide during a
ballgame and generate more wins.
8. Sliding

- Sliding is a key skill any youth softball player

should learn to master. By the time a girl gets
to the high school level, getting down and
dirty on the base paths should be like second
nature. Always slide feet first, never with
hands or head first. Your feet should be the
first thing that touch the ground.
VOLLEYBALL
- Volleyball is a simple game
which doesn’t require any
equipment other than a ball, a
net and a flat court. Even two
players can play and have fun
with volleyball.
VOLLEYBALLS TECHNICAL
SKILLS
1. STANCE (ready position of the body and foot

- A basic position, a stance in volleyball is a

comfortable, good balanced position. A player
has a well-balanced volleyball stance when
her feet are slightly wider than your
shoulders, knees are bent (hips are lowered
closer to ground) and body weight is shifted a
little bit more on the ball of you feet vs. heels.
2. SERVICE (Understand, sidearm, and
overhead serve)

- In volleyball, the serve is the act of

putting the ball in play by a player
sounds simple, but actually it describes
one of the most important plays in the
game of volleyball.
3. TOSSING (understand and overhead or
finger toss)

- The ball must be thrown up into the air

by approximately 20in. The hitting hand is
drawn back as the ball is thrown up by
bending it at the elbow and then bringing
it forward to connect with the ball.
4. PASSING / RECEIVING ( Forearm pass, Overhead
and dig pass

- The player performs a pass when s/he

hits the ball around the torso level - with
forearms of the straightened arms. The
player moves arms unattached under the
approaching ball, stops and takes a well
balanced and low passing position.
5. ATTACKING

- A volleyball attacker is also called a hitter

or spiker. An attacker is a player who
attempts to hit a ball towards the
opponents court with the purpose of
finishing the volley and scoring a point for
his/her team. Attack Hit. An attack is any
ball that is sent over the net to the
opponent.
6. BLOCKING

- Volleyball blocking is defined as

deflecting the ball coming from your
opponent's attack hit. Blocking is a skill
in volleyball used to prevent the
opponent from a successful attack hit. A
block technique is used to deflect the
ball coming from an attacker.
7. DEFENSIVE SKILLS (Rolling/ Sliding)

- Defense is the action that a team takes

from the time that the ball is contacted
and/or controlled by its opponents until
the ball crosses the plane of the net to
your side of the net and is either stuff
blocked back to your opponent or
controlled for an offensive play by your
team.
VOLLEYBALLS EQUIPMENT
Net
 one meter long and 9.5 to 10 meter wide.
 The center of the net should lie 2.43 meter
above the ground for men and 2.24 meter
for women.
 At the sides the net may be higher by a
maximum of 2cm, however it should be
tied at the same height at both the posts.
Court

 The court width is marked on the net with

a tape.
 one meter extends from the tape marker
on both sides of the net.
 markings help the referee determine
when the ball goes outside the court.
Ball

 Volley ball a spherical ball of 65-67

cm circumference.
 It is made of leather or any
synthetic material and weighs 260-
280.
