BACKGROUND INFORMATION

• In 2003, the DepEd, through the office of


the
Undersecretary for Finance and
Administration, launched the Library Hub
Project as one of its
innovative initiatives. This project aims to
develop the love for and habit of reading
among public school pupils and students
through building a warehouse of
supplementary reading materials called the
LIBRARY HUB.
VISION
Make all pupils and students functionally literate by
bringing books to all public elementary and
secondary schools in the Division of
Puerto Princesa City

MISSION
To maintain a functional hub in this Division.
GOAL
To serve all the 75 public elementary and 20
public secondary schools in the Division of
Puerto Princesa City.
OBJECTIVES
.To provide greater access to reading materials to all public school
pupils and students through library hubs.

.To provide quality and appropriate books to public schools in this


division.

.To develop the love for books and habit of reading.


.Make every pupil/student of Puerto Princesa City a book lover.
.To support the development of reading comprehension skills and
students.
DEFINITION OF LIBRARY HUB
It is a “warehouse and wholesale” library located in a strategic
place within a Division and exclusively providing public
elementary and secondary schools with quality and adequate
supplementary reading materials arranged in plastic bins and
sorted by subject area and grade or year level.
WHY IS IT CALLED “LIBRARY HUB”?
It is the center or depot of learning activities.
It is a circulation of books, reading materials and other educational
resources in a division.
It aims to develop the love and habit of reading among pupils and students

in public schools. The project supports the DepEd’s reading program.


It is one of the keys to unlock the challenge of literacy on a nationwide

scale.
WHAT ARE THE LIBRARY HUB BOOKS AND
HOW ARE THEY SELECTED?
These are BEC curriculum specific and value-laden
reading books intended for preschoolers to high
school students, including SPED classes and non-
formal education learners. The reading materials
provided by DepED as its counter-part are
carefully selected and evaluated by curriculum
experts. To augment its book collection, the Hub
welcomes donations from its stakeholders.
BORROWING AND RETURNING OF
READING MATERIALS
1.The hub librarian keeps a master list of all
public elementary and high schools in the
division for reference.
2. The school head/borrower may prepares in
advance the list of reading materials to be
borrowed and returned through the hub librarian.
3. The hub librarian records all borrowed and
returned reading materials from the hub.

READING MATERIALS
Borrowed reading materials should be returned after 25 calendar
days. Swapping or exchanging of bins is strictly not allowed.
5. The hub staff must keep a record book or a computerized record
system of borrowed and returned books.
6. The teacher may allow the pupils/students to take out a reading
material which should be returned within five school days within
the 25-day period. The school head, the classroom teacher
concerned and the teacher-librarian shall be held responsible and
accountable for the reading materials taken out and returned
within the prescribed period. In case of lost or unreturned books or
materials, replacements must be made..

7. Accommodating researchers and readers in
the hub shall be under special arrangements
and supervision.
8. The conduct of different educational activities
is encouraged in the activity area of the hub
such as storytelling, book exhibit, read-athon
and other related reading promotion activities to
achieve the objectives of the project.
