MARPHOGENEOUS FEATURES
• Height : grow over 30ft
• It exhibits symmetrical pyramidal growth with
willowy weeping pendulous branches and long
narrow lanceolate leaves with undulate margins
• Fresh leaves are a coppery brown color and are
soft and delicate to touch, as the leaves grow older
the color becomes a light green and finally a dark
green.
• In spring the tree is covered with delicate star-like
pale green flowers.
• The flowers last for a short period, usually two to
three weeks, are not conspicuous due to their
color.

Pinus roxburghii
• COMMON name: CHIR PINE
Properties:
 It generally occurs at lower
altitudes than other pines in the
Himalaya, from 500–1,500 m
 Height: Pinus roxburghii is a
large tree reaching 30–50 m with a
trunk diameter of up to 2 m
 gymnosperm
 The bark is red-brown, thick and
deeply fissured at the base of the
trunk
 Leaves: The leaves are needle-like,
in fascicles of three, very slender,
20–35 cm (7.9–13.8 in) long, and
distinctly yellowish green.

Uses:
• Forms the part of natural and
cultural landscape of the lower
himachal with altitude less than
1500m
• It is also occasionally used as an
ornamental tree, planted in parks
and gardens in hot dry areas,
where its heat and drought
