Land where Jesus Lived.

Belonged to the Greco-Roman world because

the Greeks and Romans greatly influenced
their culture and mindsets
In Scripture, Palestine is often referred to as:

1. Land of Israel – After Jacob’s second name; Israel

means victory with God and man.
2. Land of Canaan – It literally means “Lowland”
3. Promised Land – a land flowing milk and honey
4. Land of Judah – After the name of one the sons of
Jacob.
5. Palestine – Greeks gave this name I reference to the
Philistines.

camaraderie (fellowship) and loyalty.
E. BELIEFS ABOUT THE FAMILY
 The family unit served as the true religious community
 The father often acts as the celebrant to family feasts
 Children were blessings from Yahweh
 To be childless means being cursed or not favored by God
 Parents favored the boys than the girls because girls marry at a
young age and become someone else’s property and they are
seen as inferior to boys.
 During meal time, women were not allowed to eat with men at
the table, they remain standing while eating
 In worship, women had a certain place in the temple.
 On streets, women kept a distance from men.
