o Problem statement
o Objective of this study
Green Environment

 Green environment is an Earth friendly approach to living.

 This means the choices you make in your daily life are in the
best interest of the environment
 Green environment means to live a life, as an individual as
well as a community, in the that is friendly to the natural
environmental and is sustainable for the earth.
 Taking steps, whether small or big, to minimize the harm you
do to environment.
What is Green innovation?
 The process of translating an idea or invention into a
good or service that creates value or for which
customer will pay.
 Hardware or software innovation that is related to
green products or processes, including the innovation
in   technologies that are involved in energy-saving,
pollution-prevention, waste recycling, green product
designs, or corporate environmental management’
(Chen et al., 2006)
 As innovations that consist of new or modified
processes, practices, systems and products which
benefit the environment and so contribute to
environmental sustainability’ (Oltra and Saint Jean,
Objective of this Study

 To find out why we are not going to green

 Barriers resist to green innovation
Literature review
 The green environment innovation has still at
their initial stage
 In affluent nations of the world such as the US,
Canada, Australia have proper policies and
regulations for a green management system
 On the other hand in developing countries
scenarios the green innovation is in the initial
stage or yet to start.
 Barriers to green innovation activities adoption
are the same in developing states and affluent
states of the world (Albert ping Chuen Chan and
Amos Darko, 2017)
Literature Review
 In Earlier days the focus was only on wastage
reduction rather on green environment
innovation
 New concept of green environment innovation
was developed which called green focusing and
protecting the green natural environment
(Muhammad Nazam, 2015)
 Two types of barriers find out after the study of
literature review internal barriers and external
barriers
Literature Review
 The importance of green innovation identified for the 1st time by (Chen et
al,2006)
 He determined the importance of environmentally products (such as green
design, nontoxic material for production, minimize and recycle the waste
energy saving and use products which not make pollution).
 green environment innovation and process is not an easy task ( Chen et al,
2006 and Kemmerer, 2009)
 The green innovation product should meet the consumer needs or in other
words the product should be according to a customer demand. (Tseng et
al, 2013)
 Attainment of green innovation purpose the manufacturer should upgrade
the Technology, R&D and employee’s skills development (Athaide et al.
Rao and Holt, 2005 Chen et, 2006)
 The manufacturing firms must set a benchmark ( such as ISO standard for
environmentally friendly production
 ISO certificated firm are more inclined toward green innovation (Walker
de Sisto and Mc Bain in 2016)
Barriers to green environment initiatives
 Internal and external Barriers
 Internal Barriers :
 Resist inside the Organization (lack of Financial resources, lack of
experts & knowledge and supervisor incivility.
 External Barriers :
 Lack of government support and market demand.
 Sandberg and Aarikka Stenroos,2014 Savignac,2008: conducted
a survey in a French manufacturer firms and found that the lack of
financial resources is the biggest barrier to green Innovation

 Lack of proper innovative knowledge and expert can deter the

organization from successful innovation. (Anumba et al, 2006
Zerjav and Javernick will, 2009).
Model conceptualization
The established and most reported barriers to green innovation toke from
various literature of different industries which resist the firms from moving
toward green adoption. The barriers consists of

1. Lack of financial resources

2. Lack of Knowledge of experts
3. Lake of Government support
4. Lack of Customer and market demand
Conceptual Model
Supervisor
Incivility

Lack of Financial Resources

Lack of Government Support

Green Environment Initiatives

Lack of Experts and Knowledge

Lack of Market Demand

Lack of Financial resources
The financial resources are the basic
requirements for any firm for conducting and
implementing the green initiatives

The green innovation is a costly and expensive

procedure

Spend enormous amount for attaining green

technology and R&D, (Lee, 2008; Wu,Ding and
chen,2012).
Lack of Financial resources
 The investor interest in profit return.

 The decision of investing a huge amount for eco

innovation regardless of the idea of profit in
return is a big challenge for the investor (Wang et
al,2008)

 The lack of financial resources is the major

barrier in the developed countries such as the US,
Canada and Australia(Chan et al,2016)
Lack of Financial resources
Lack of finance deter different type of industries
from green innovation activities for instance the
Green building, Automobile sectors, SME

In Singapore green innovation activities and

fond that the higher cost of green equipment’s
and materials is the major barrier to green
innovation(Hwang and Tang 2012)
Lack of Government support
 The government support is very essential in order
to implement green practices

 Government support in tax reduction and

subsidies in Green products

 Knowledge of green economy.

 Irresponsible behavior of government toward

green initiatives

 Canadian government is the Best example of

supportive government in green innovation
Lack of Knowledge and Expertise:
 Insufficient Availability Of Market Knowledge And Expertise
On Green Environment Initiatives Prevent The Firms From
Adopting Environment Friendly Products And Procedures
(Madrid Guijarra Et Al, 2009)

 Due To Lack Of Experts Firms Become Unable To Actually

Estimate The Success And Demand Of Their Products
(Woolman And Veshagh, 2006)

 As Stated By 35 Various Articles, Lack Of Information Has Turn

Into The Top International Barrier To The Achievement Of
Green Environmental Innovation Aim. (Darko, 2016).
Lack of Knowledge and Expertise:
 Indeed in a chaotic environment ability of a firm to overcome
the competitive behavior and its efficiency depend upon
capability of a firm to ensure maximum knowledge and value
whether it is of technological or scientific nature (WB Arfi,jm
sahut 2018)

Saudi Arab And Dubai Which Are Strong Enough Financially But
Still Failed To Implement The Green Innovation Policies Due To
The Shortage Of Local Experts And Green Knowledge. (Ibrahim,
2015)
Lack of Market Demand
Lack Of Market Demand
 Customer demand is a key for green innovation initiatives
because the product demand is the only source to divert the firm’s
attention toward the green innovation, as the market demand is
the main tool of profit maximization.
 The motivation of the customer to give for green environmental
invention will save the future requirement of green environment
of a society
 The lack of customers’ reaction to new products will prove
organizations that contain smaller quantity propensities to
innovate (Silva and Leita˜o, 2007).
 Organizations consider that if the market does not admit their new
products, then they have no encouragement to take on advance
initiatives because of time, cost, and resource constraints
Moderating Effects of Supervisor Incivility

Environment friendly activities in businesses only

possible with support of supervisor.

 Most of green innovation activities failed due to

irresponsible behavior of supervisor . (tramarico et
al, 2015)

Supervisor incivility is a kind of non serious and

freak act which directly affect the organizational
operations
Moderating Effects of Supervisor Incivility

 Most of the studies available on the positive effect of

supervisor

 A very little attention has been given to the negative effect

of destructive supervision (li 2014; yang, 2015).

 (Hwang and tang (2012) studies determined that the

communication among supervisor and project team is very
essential for green adoption the lack of this communication
can affect the organization green innovations targets and
strengthened the barriers
Conclusion
Conclusion

The environmental issue is a serious dilemma for the modern word and
society

Advancement of the society effecting the green environment.

Firms directly or indirectly involved, accelerating environmental problems

(such as global warming, pollution and others factors which can effect natural
health of environment
Conclusion
The paramount solution of disabling environmental issues is the adoption Eco
innovation to protect the environment from hazardous factors which
produced by the different industries
Despite of knowing the importance of green environment and the hazardous
effects advancement on green environment still we are not adopting green
practices.
These identified barriers are strongly backing the firms to produced
environmental hazardous products.
Categorically, the environment facing some serious threats form the
advancement of societies and proactive action need to take to overcome
environmental barriers and divert the attention of organization toward green
innovation initiatives
