“The opposite of love is not hate,
it's indifference. The opposite of art
is not ugliness, it's indifference. The
opposite of faith is not heresy, it's
indifference. And the opposite of life
is not death, it's indifference.”
― Elie Wiesel

Writing Diagnostic
This is a two step writing assignment. The first part is writing a
paragraph by thinking critically about a problem and writing about the
steps you would use to solve it. The second part is using research skills
to see if your answer is correct and then figuring out what the correct
answer is. For both parts, I am trusting you to do all the writing and
thinking on your own.

See the next slide for the assignment.

Writing Diagnostic
1) If you are climbing Mount Everest on March 20, 2020, how much
longer would the day be at the top of the mountain compared to the
length of the day at sea level? Do NOT look this up, I want you to
just write a paragraph explaining how you would solve this problem.
2) After you finish writing the first paragraph, search online to get
information about how to determine the change in day length due
to height. Write a second paragraph explaining how similar or
different your first answer was from the correct one.
3) BONUS: A: Answer the question. B: Why March 20, 2020?
