GOVINDWADI
INTRODUCTION
 Water is the most important in shaping the land and
regulating the climate. It is one of the most
important compounds that profoundly influence life.

 In the last few decades, there has been a

tremendous increase in the demand for fresh water
due to rapid growth of population and the
accelerated pace of industrialization.

 Ground water is used for domestic and industrial

water supply and also for irrigation purposes in all
over the world.
 According to WHO, about 80% of all the
diseases in human beings are caused by
water.

 Once the groundwater is contaminated, its

quality cannot be restored back easily and to
device ways and means to protect it.
Importance of project:
 To make awareness about the possible
diseases due to dissolved minerals, salts,
impurities in groundwater this project if
helpful.

 This project gives the idea about agricultural

parameters like nitrogen, phosphorous
content, potassium content of ground water
which can be further correlated to cropping
pattern under the guidance of agricultural
expertise.
Objective:
 To check quality of groundwater in Govindwadi
village.
 To check the potability of available groundwater
source.
 To aware the Govindwadi village people
regarding water-borne diseases and their
prevention.
 To evaluate the Physico-chemical characteristics
of the water sample.
 To analyze variation in available storage of
aquifer and groundwater table.
Line of action:

STEP 1.
 To approximately locate the center of the village
and with reference to that center point locating
the coordinates of all specimen aquifers.

STEP 2.
 To collect sample of 2-3 liters from each aquifers
after monsoon season i.e. post monsoon season.
STEP 3.
 To measure depth of water, peripheral area
and depth of groundwater table so that we can
calculate available storage of aquifer.

STEP 4.
 To perform the following laboratory tests on
collected sample:
 1. pH
 2. Hardness
 3. Alkalinity test
 4. Fluoride content test
 5. Chloride content test
 6. Phosphate content test
 7. Potassium content test
 8. Sodium content test
 9. Electrical conductivity
STEP 5.
 Repeat the steps 2, 3 and 4 for pre monsoon
season.

STEP 6.
 Compare the results of performed tests with
the standard values recommended by WHO
and BIS.
STANDARD RESULTS FOR PERMISSIBLE
VALUES:
LITERATURE SURVEY
 Assessment of groundwater suitability for irrigation
purpose.
 Study area : The study area is situated in east coast
of Andhra Pradesh consisting Narsapur-
Mogalthur mandals, Dist: West Godavari
 Author: M.S.V.K.PRASAD
Assistant professor and research scholar at
department of enviromental sciences
Andhra University, Vishakapatnam , India
 Line of action followed by Author

 1. Collected total 78 water sample from

the study area consisting of 39 bore
wells and 39 tube wells
and analyzed during pre and post
mansoon season of 2012-14 to
understand the behaviour of
groundwater quality, suitability for
irrigation.
2. He conducted the following tests and from that
values specified the suitability for irrigation
 ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY
 INDEX OF CHLORINITY
 SODIUM ADSORPTION RATIO (SAR)
 RESIDUAL SODIUM CARBONATES (RSC)

3. He analyzed samples for various chemical

parameters described by APHA i.e. American Public
Health Association.
 Assessment of groundwater quality around Hadpsar
region in Pune, Maharashtra.

 Study area:
Hadpsar is an eastern suburb of pune city,
Maharashtra, India.

Line of Action followed by Author:

1. Groundwater sample were randomly collected
from rural areas like Keshavnagar, Ghulevasti
and Bhapkarmala.
2. The collected samples were analyzed for various
parameters like pH, total dissolved solids,
hardness, conductivity, turbidity, alkanity,
chlorides, sulphates, calcium, magnesium, Na, K.
3.These samples were analyzed during
post monsoon (nov.2014) and pre
monsoon(april 2015).
4.Results were analyzed by comparing
with APHA standards.
