the Good Samaritan)
 Three characters/personalities of
the parable:
A Priest
He passed by looking the dying man
on the street

He was obsessed with the law, with his

work
He was unable to integrate/internalize his
life as a priest to his deeds

He failed to do the necessary

 A Levite

He was expert of the law

He was knowledgeable about the
commandments of Yahweh

He was self-righteous
 A Traveler
He stopped and attended the dying
person
He gave him immediate medication for
him to recover a little
He brought into an inn to be hospitalized
He paid all his accounts
He was sensitive to the needs of others
He did the best for his neighbor
He expected nothing in return

Three Components of
LOVE:

Passion

Intimacy

Commitment
To be intimate with someone is
to be accepted by the person.
And to intimately know the
person is to be transformed by
what one knows.
 Three symbols of Discipleship:
Disciple as a child
Dependent on God alone
Our desire for God is the desire that should
guide all other desires.

What do we really desire?

“COMMUNION”, which means “UNION WITH”.
St. Augustine: My Heart is restless,
until it rest in you…
But we are asked to be in communion with God. To
develop, to inflame, nurture our desire to be in
communion with God, because he is the source of all
graces, the source of human life.
 Disciple as a cross

To serve under Christ is always to serve under

to banner of the cross.

If you avoid the cross (trials, challenges) in

your life, you can’t live life to the fullest.

We follow Christ not because we MUST, but we

LOVE. Since, because of love we turn suffering
into sacrifices, and because of our sacrifices we
touch and we bring Christ to others.
 Disciple as a servant

Sirach 2:1 says, when you come to

serve the lord, prepare yourself for
trials.

But to serve God is always in

particular state of life considering
talents, skills, age, health, etc.
 God calls in a special talent
that we have (like the priest)

Social Work– special skills

Basketball player
Soccer player
Graceful Dancer
Angelic Voice – Singer
Artist
Programming
God calls us for a special
vocation (a levite)

Religious, priest,
single blessedness,
and married person
 God calls us to become His
genuine disciples (the
traveler)

Discipleship does not necessarily mean

to become a religious or a priest
Discipleship does not limit to
priesthood or religious life…video: I
love living life. I am happy.

Becoming a disciple is living in a

virtues life – not so much in values
Today we have higher buildings and wider
highways… but shorter temperaments and
narrower points of view.

We spend more… but enjoy less.

We have bigger houses… but smaller
families.
We have more compromises… but less time.
We have more knowledge… but less
judgment.

We have more medicines… but less

health.
We have multiplied our possessions…
but reduced our values.

We talk much…we love only a little…

and we hate too much.

We reached the Moon and came back… but

we find it troublesome to cross our own
street and meet our neighbors.

We have conquered outer space…but

not our inner space.

We have higher income… but fewer

(Less) morals.
There are times with more
liberty… but less joy.

With much more food…but less nutrition.

There are days in which two salaries

get home… but divorces increase.

These are times of finer houses… but

more broken homes.
We are baptized as Christians, but
our words and deeds are unchristian
 Guide questions for reflection:

•What are my desires in life?

•Do I have the desire to be in communion

with God and with others?

•What attitude or behavior I need to

NURTURE, DEVELOP, and CHANGE in
order to become a genuine disciple of
Christ?
