CLOZE TEST
• A Cloze Test (also called the “Cloze Deletion
Test”) is an exercise, test, or assessment
consisting of a portion of text with certain
words removed (cloze text), where the teacher
asks the participant to restore the missing
words.
• Cloze Tests require students to understand the
context for them to supply words that best suit
the passages.
 GUIDELINES IN MAKING A CLOZE TEST

• Choose the reading material or the passage

that you will use for the cloze test.
• Usually, every 5th word or 6th word in the text
are omitted and replaced with blanks.
• Students are then instructed to restore those
omitted words or fill those blanks with words
that they think best fits the passage.

 1. THE ITEM SHOULD REQUIRE A SINGLE WORD
ANSWER OR BRIEF AND DEFINITE STATEMENT.
DO NOT USE INDEFINITE STATEMENT THAT
ALLOWS SEVERAL ANSWERS.
