Canada’s Contribution in
Numbers
● Only 1.6% of world’s greenhouse gas emissions [1]
● Still determined to follow Paris Climate Agreement and decrease
emissions by 30% from 2005-2030 [1]
● Hope to decrease emissions by 80% by 2050 [2]
● Received “Insufficient” CAT rating [2]

[1]
Canada’s Focus
● Each level of Government contributes to the success [1]
○ Sector-by-sector regulatory approach
○ Intergovernmental forum: The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment
● Transportation [1]
○ Large decline in use of light trucks and heavy machinery
■ Due to tighter regulations for fuel use and car emissions
■ Gasoline must contain 5% renewable fuel content
○ Has been working closely with the U.S. to make new North American standard for vehicle
emissions
● Electricity [1]
○ Banned construction of coal-fired electricity generation units
○ Attempt to phase-out current facilities
Canada’s Attitude
● Work as a Team to Combat This [1]
○ Willing to help other countries, especially
in North America
● Financially Invested [1]
○ $10 billion nationwide into their efforts
● Technological Advancements [1]
○ Created the world’s first large scale
carbon capture and storage facility at an
oil sands operation in Alberta, CA

[3]
Canada Today
● Canada’s Climate Action Network: Canada is not doing its fair share [4]
○ Listed among a list of the world’s top ten countries that contribute most to global
pollution, despite Canada’s small population
○ Canada’s per-capita carbon emissions are higher than that of almost all other countries
○ World “can expect to see warming of between 2.6°C and 4°C if nations continue down
[Canada’s] current path”
○ Would need to decrease emissions by 60% to do fair share
● Plan [4]:
1. stop using public money to support fossil fuel companies
2. create greater targets concerning emission reductions
3. help other countries lower their emissions to make up for Canada’s shortcomings
4. getting more citizens to believe in, understand, and discuss climate change
5. create laws and procedures that apply to every citizen, can be achieved, and are effectual
