DRAIN HOLE

is a drainage system installed under a road

or road ditch to collect and transport
subsurface water. These buried conduits
come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are
usually wrapped in geotextile fabric which
allows water to enter the conduit while
keeping sediment out.

Drains also prevent subsurface water from mixing with

sediment-laden surface runoff during storm events. The
clean water collected by an underdrain can then be
directed to a stable outlet location separate from road
surface drainage.
STORM DRAIN
A storm drain, storm sewer, stormwater drain or simply a drain is
designed to drain excess rain and ground water from paved
streets, parking lots, sidewalks, and roofs. Storm drains vary in design
from small residential dry wells to large municipal systems. They are fed
by street gutters on most motorways, freeways and other busy roads,
as well as towns in areas which experience heavy
rainfall, flooding and coastal towns which experience regular storms.
Many storm drainage systems are designed to drain the storm water,
untreated, into rivers or streams.
There are two main types of stormwater drain (storm sewer) inlets:

Side inlets : Side inlets are located adjacent to the curb (kerb) and
rely on the ability of the opening under the backstone or lintel to
capture flow. They are usually depressed at the invert of the channel
to improve capture capacity.

EARTHING PIT
An 'earth pit', is a pit in which connection is
made between the earthing (grounding)
electrodes that have been hammered into (or
laid into) the soil, and the earthing conductor
that connects the electrical installation to those
earthing electrodes.

Earth Pits provide a secure and user friendly

access point for maintenance purposes and the
periodical measuring of electrical resistance of a
buried earthing system. Installation of earthing with earth pit:
In order to complete routine measurements of •Plate earthing
electrical resistance simply remove the lid from •Pipe earthing
the installed earth pit and connect a lead from •Maintenance free earthing
the resistance meter to the earthing conductor.
