 Comes from the Latin word “LITERA” means “an
acquaintance with letters”.
 It is a body of work, either written, oral, or visual,
containing imaginative language that realistically
portrays thoughts, emotion, and experience of
human condition.
 A product of particular culture that concretizes
man’s array of values , emotions, actions and idea.

POETRY
 Literature that evokes a
concentrated imaginative
awareness of experience or a
specific emotional response
through language chosen and
arranged for its meaning,
sound, and rhythm.
TYPES OF
POETRY
1. LYRICAL POETRY

 Is a short poem which has the


characteristics of a song.
 It pertain to a single mood or feeling
and is more personal in nature.
LYRICAL POETRY - SONNET

 It is relatively short poem consisting of


merely fourteen lines. It is known to
follow a strict pattern of rhyme.
LYRICAL - ELEGY
 This is a lyric poem which expresses lament and
mourning of the dead, feeling of grief and melancholy.

LYRICAL - ODE

 This is a poem of nobeling the feelings,


expressed with dignity and praises for some
persons, objects, events or ideas.
2. NARRATIVE

 Has special appeal.


 Describes event in a vivid
way, using some of the
elements as short stories,
plot characters and
dialogue.
NARRATIVE - EPIC

 A long story and narrative


poem that normally tells
a story about a hero or an
adventure.

 There are many different
variations of cinquain
including American cinquians,
didactic cinquains, reverse
cinquians, butterfly cinquians
and crown cinquians.

VERSE
 A loosest type of poem.
 It consists as a many lines
as the writer wants and
either rhyme or not and has
no fixed metrical pattern.

 A descriptive type of poetry


belong to descriptive that
use an adjective to describe
a person that begins with
each letter of that person’s
name.
