It is a probability sampling
technique that divides /
separate large populations into
stages to make the sample
size more specific.
Samples in each stage is being
divided into smaller and
smaller units.
Multistage sampling can be a complex form
of cluster sampling because it is a type of
sampling which involves dividing the population
into groups (or clusters). Then, one or more
clusters are chosen at random and everyone
B U T.the
within . .chosen cluster is sampled.
Cluster sampling uses clusters whereas
multistage sampling uses stages.

Let’s consider the sample location as the USA. The
research goal is to assess the online spending trends
of people in the US through an online questionnaire.
Researchers can form their sample group comprising
200 households in the following manner:

1. Select ten (10) states.

2. Choose five districts within each state
3. Choose four households from each district

gather samples from 123 countries in the following
manner:

2. Choose 3 within each countries.
A survey of health issues for adults living in Iowa. So
your population of interest is ALL adults living in Iowa.
100 adults will be interviewed about the health
concerns.

1. take 5 counties in Iowa

2. 4 townships from within each chosen country
3. 5 roads from within each chosen township
4. Randomly pick 1 home on each chosen road
5. Randomly pick 1 adult living in each chosen home
to talk to.
