Fakir Lalon Shah


• Lalon Shah is one of most
acclaimed and prominent
philosopher
• His philosophy still being carried
out by thousands of songs
• His vision on human life is the
fundamental base of Baul culture
and tradition
Lalon Mela
Major Attractions:
• Every year first week of April on
Lalon’s birth anniversary by the
devotees
• The fair is held at the akhra (the place
where Lalon lived) situated in Kushtia
• The entire place goes through
colorful decoration on this occasion
• ektara and other musical instrument,
the singers of Lalon Academy
perform Lalon’s song all through the
night during this fair
Shakrain Festival

• It is known as Poush
Shangkranti
• Based on old Dhaka
• Also known as Kite Festival
• Observed at the end of the
Bengali month Poush or
January 14 or 15
Shakrain Festival

Major Attractions:

• people of all ages gather around


their rooftop with their kites in
the afternoon
• Kite Flying and Fighting
• People crack their fireworks in a way
to light up the sky of old Dhaka.
• Fire show of flame eaters
Nobanno Utshob
• Bangladesh is the land of culture,
tradition, festival and beauty
• Nobanno Utshob is one of the popular
cultural and traditional festivals in this
country.
• This festival is also known as New
Harvest Festival
• The Bengali terms Nobanno means
'New Rice' or 'New Crop'.
• To celebrate this festival, people
arrange different kind's homemade
foods and also wear traditional dresses.
Dubla Rash Mela
• Dubla Rash festival is the biggest fair in
not only Bagerhat, but also the entire
Bangladesh
• At the centre of the festival are twenty
thousand temporary fishermen who are
engaged in catching and drying fish on
Dubla
• In the Bangla month of Agrahayan every
year, the fair continues for 5-7 days
during full moon time.
• Dubla Island is situated on the Bay of
Bengal as a part of the Sundarbans forest
• Traditional handicrafts, precious wooden
items, foods etc are put on sale.
Fair of Ashwin Sankranti

• Helds on Khulsi,a village of


Dhurgapur upazilla,on the bank of
river.
• Celebrated in the first three days of
Bangali month Aswin.
• The chief attraction of this fair is
circus showJilapi traditional
handicrafts, household items,
puffed rice, jewelry, pottery etc are
major attractions and exhibits of
this fair
Baisabi Festival
 Baisabi is the main social festival of the
indigenous people living in the hill districts
of Rangamati, Bandarban and
Khagrachhari.
 This festival is celebrated by the
 Chakma and Tanchyanga as "Biju",
 Marmas as "Shangrai",
 Tripuras as "Baisuk" or "Baisu".
 Biju is a festival celebrated for three
consecutive days- the last two days of
Chaitra and the first day of Baisakh.
In the afternoon the teenagers play
traditional games like Ghila and Bou-chi.
Gaijja-Paijja
Baisabi Festival

• The Marinas celebrate Shangrai for


four days. They all carry the image of
Lord Buddha to the river front and set
down the image on a floating bed.
• In every locality, the water throwing
festival starts with people throwing
water at each other so that the
previous year's sorrow will be washed
away
• The Baisuk festival of the Tripura tribe
is celebrated by worshipping the god
Shiva and asking for his blessings.
Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela
• Amor Ekushey February is a historic day for the Bengali
nation. On that day five valiant sons of this country laid down
their lives to win recognition for Bangla as a State language.
• On 21st February of 1952 a massive procession was taken
out, led by the Students Union of Dhaka University and
people from all walks of life joined spontaneously to protest
against the declaration of Urdu as the sole State language of
Pakistan.
• The police opened fire on the demonstrators when they
reached the location of the present Shahid Minar. As a result,
five people were killed and several others injured.
• To commemorate this great day, a Grantha Mela or book fair
was started on a small scale in 1974 and it was officially
recognized in 1978. After the publishers' and booksellers'
organization came together as a cooperative force in
organizing the book fair, its popularity increased at a quick
pace from 1989. The number of buyers and readers increased
in the same manner.
Langalbandh Fair

• Every year on the 8th day of the Iunar month falls in the
Bengali month of Chaitra, thousands of Hindu devotees
from home and abroad assemble on the banks of the old
Brahmaputra river for Astami snan, a ritual bath in the river.
• The main attractions of the fair are exhibits, like pottery and
products made of bamboo – cane and thread.
• These exhibits are very popular among the devotees
visiting the place. Sweetmeat stalls do brisk business during
the fair.
Baishakhi Mela
BACKGROUND
• Tax collection : based on Arabic/Hijri Calender
during Akbar’s reign.
• Not feasible for the farmers.
• Fateullah Shiraji, scholar of Akbar, the Great,
introduced the new calendar that rhythm with
the SIX seasons
• The rule :
– To pay tax at the last of “CHAITRA”
– Still revolted
• Baadshah Akbar introduced the celebrations right
after the day of tax, that is at April 14, 2017
paying to remove the contradictions.
• Thus how POHELA BOISHAKH Day is celebrated
through “BAISHAKHI MELA”

• “Shubho Jatra” is done at the morning.
• Major celebration is done at “Romna
Botomol”
• Celebrations started with Rabindra
Sangeet and other songs such Jatra,

• The biggest Fish fair in Bangladesh.


• Sets on the last Wednesday of the Benglali month
Magh.
• It sets for 2/3 days.
• Continuing from last 150 years.
Gurpukur Fair

• Furniture made of Sundarbans wood and fruit


plants.
• puppet shows, magic shows and Jatra.
• In 1992, the idea borrowed from Gurpukur Mela
was nationally replicated in all district and upazila.
• This was done to strengthen tree planting
