Work at Late
Night Shifts in
Offices ?
(An Ethical Dilemma)

Women are the foundation of any
economy and they fundamentally mold
the fate of the nation.

Women who earlier remained at home


and catered to the household obligations
is now balancing both work and home at

So, in such a scenario where there are
so many crimes happening against
women and so many criminal cases
pending in the courts, should more
and more women really be
encouraged to work in late-night shifts
or not?
Factories Act 1948 banned working of
women in night shifts by stating that no
women shall be required or allowed to work
in any factory except between the hours of 6
AM and 7 PM.

In November 2019, Karnataka government


lifted restrictions on allowing women to work
FACTS in night shifts in all sectors. It issued
guidelines to employers to ensure safety of
women employees.

Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh,


Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra too amended
factories act 1948 to allow women to work in night
shifts.”

1. Criminal activities prevailing outside in the
night

3. Big Companies having cab drop facilities, but
small scale industries doesn’t
4. Organisations not following law of pick and
drop facilities.
5. Night shift damaging body resilience and
control over blood sugar
6. Women working in night shift have 48%
increased risk of developing breast cancer,
leads to anxiety and hypertension.

• Today, the median female share of
the global workforce is 45.4%.
• The role of women in urban
workforce has expanded
exponentially in recent decades.
• In spite of lot of contributions given
by women in regards of work
towards society we still debate
regarding women working patterns
and working time.

• Instead of discouraging women


from night shifts, safety measures
should be improved.

should create a healthy working
environment to make them feel safe
and secure.
