Introduction about Cricket

 Cricket is called the game of bat and ball which is played

between two teams at one time consisting of 11 players
each. Each team aims to score more runs than the other
team and the team with more runs wins the game

 Cricket is played in three formats i.e. Test Cricket, ODI

cricket and Twenty20 Cricket (T20).
ICC (International Cricket
Council)
ICC (International Cricket Council) is the apex body
for control for cricket at global level, whereas every
country has their own governing body for cricket. All
world champions of men and women such as Cricket
World Cup, Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and ICC
Champions Trophy are organized by ICC. It sets
standards for discipline and regulation for International
cricket ICC appoints. There is about 12 countries are
Test playing nations in the world.
CRICKET IN INDIA

 Cricket is by far the most popular sport in

India.
When cricket is going on everything else
takes back seat and everybody stops for
the time being.
Cricket has become a part of Indian culture.
Our country is famous worldwide for its
craze of cricket.
Such banners can be seen in all Stadiums and streets
in the country
IS CRICKET SHADOWING ALL
OTHER GAME IN THE COUNTRY ?

Yes, in my opinion cricket has shadowing all other

games in the country as no sports can challenge its
popularity, Cricket has also shadowed the growth of
various sports. Too much of cricket promotions have
affected other sports in the country.
The leading companies are interested to invest their
money in only cricket not in other games. Though
hockey is our national game, hockey players do not
recognized commercially we can see failure of Indian
football team; Indian football team struggles to get
place in FIFA. Other sports like Football, Tennis,
Badminton, Chess, Kabbaddi, Olympic Games also do
exist. But they might have a lesser Fan base and
following in comparison. The Advertising and Media
rights & rates are significantly higher for Cricket than
other Commercial sports.
The major reasons for underdevelopment of
sports in India are -:

Corruption & Mismanagement of sports

authorities
Social and economic inequalities
Lack of infrastructure
Meager allocation of resources
CRICKET CROWDS FOR
CROWDS V/S OTHER
SPORTS
POPULARITY OF OTHER SPORTS IN
THE WORLD

 The popularity of cricket is mostly restricted to the sub

continent and not much popular outside of the sub
continent.

 Sports like football, lawn tennis, basketball etc have

worldwide popularity and are played by majority of the
countries in the world and are not restricted to a single
continent.
There is a need to take actions by the authorities as well as the
fans of the game to increase its popularity in most parts of the
world. Some steps which could be taken in this to popularize
cricket can be –

Popularize the sport on social media such as YouTube, Facebook,

Twitter, and others. If you go on any of these online media you
can see countless official and fan clips alike – from games, with
behind-the-scenes footage, and much more.

Expand the World Cup. Currently, the cricket World Cup series
includes only 10 clubs. If it was bigger and made more attractive
to audiences it would be doing a much better job at catching the
attention of the currently uninterested.
RESEARCH PAPER
WOMEN’S CRICKET IN INDIA:
 The discrimination that a sportswomen encounter in our
country is unmatched and the difference between men’s
sport and women’s sports in country in astonishing.
 The conditions and facilities available for women for are
very bad.
 For decades, cricket was only considered to be a men’s
sport and not for women, but with the ever changing
scenario women’s cricket has grown to be popular and on
the rise. The women’s cricket does not get the same
recognition as that of the men’s cricket.
The amount of screen time provided to women’s cricket
on the digital media, social media or even the print media
is nothing when compared to men’s sport.
Gathering support and sponsors for men’s cricket is very
easy due to its sheet popularity but it become very
difficult to gather even half of that support for the
women’s game
However, this scenario went through a metamorphosis in
July 2017 when the country stood united and exhibited
enthusiasm for women’s cricket which took over the
social media. World Cup 2017 marked a new era of
women’s cricket.
 There are no doubts that the condition of women’s sports in the
India especially women’s cricket has improved drastically over
the last few years, but the situation is still pretty bad. Statistics
have shown that BCCI has made considerable amounts of
efforts and regulated the facilities to a large degree ever since
the women’s cricket came under the patronage of BCCI.

 However, in a country where cricket (male) is being

worshipped and the country is known for its crazy viewership
and boundless enthusiasm, it is not an easy task for a single
entity to lift women cricket up.
