SALVATION

3 PHASES OF SALVATION
•How does Paul express all three
phases of salvation? 2 Cor. 1:10.
1. Who delivered us from so great a
death,-in the past and
2.doth deliver: in whom we trust- in
present
3.that he will yet deliver us;- in future
JUSTIFICATION
SANCTIFICATION
GLORIFICATION
(PERFECTION)
• We are transgressors and are under the
condemnation of the law. Neither race nor
language, place nor position, church affiliation nor
lack of affiliation, can either excuse or save one
from the condemnation of the law. "All have
sinned;“
• Romans 3:9-10
• 9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for
we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they
are all under sin
• 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one
Already we are members of a lost race and we
don’t have to do anything to be lost, for that is
our condition
•"all the world . . . guilty before God!“
•Romans 3:19
•Now we know that what things soever
the law saith, it saith to them who are
under the law: that every mouth may
be stopped, and all the world may
become guilty before God
SIN THROUGH ONE MAN ADAM
–ROMANS 5:12-13,19
• 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon
all men, for that all have sinned:
• 13 For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is
not imputed when there is no law
• 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were
made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall
many be made righteous.
Good works cannot save –
Galatians 2:16
• 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the
works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus
Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ,
that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by
the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified.
Man is helpless –
Romans 7:23-24
• 23 But I see another law in my members,
warring against the law of my mind, and
bringing me into captivity to the law of
sin which is in my members.
• 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall
deliver me from the body of this death?
Only God can save – Isaiah
43:11, psalms 49:7
•43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and
beside me there is no saviour.
•49:7 None of them can by any means
redeem his brother, nor give to God a
ransom for him
God made first advance to
bring salvation – Romans 5:8

•8 But God commendeth his

love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us.
Only death of Christ meets our
sinful needs- Colossians
1:14,16
• 14 In whom we have redemption through his
blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
• 16 For by him were all things created, that
are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all
things were created by him, and for him:
True repentance needed –Ezekiel
18:29-32, Ephesians 4:28
• 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O
house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
• 30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according
to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all
your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
• 31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have
transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will
ye die, O house of Israel?
• 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the
Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
• 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour,
working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to
give to him that needeth
God leads to true repentance –
Romans 2:4
•4 Or despisest thou the riches of
his goodness and forbearance
and longsuffering; not knowing
that the goodness of God leadeth
thee to repentance?
Rom. 3:21
• The law, like a thermometer, can reveal a fevered condition,
• but it is unable to heal the disease.
• The law is powerless to save from sin.
• Christ, the Great Physician, saves us from sin,
• Christ saves but does not by abolish the law, or
thermometer.
• It is the work of the physician to bring the patient to the
standard of the thermometer.
• Christ does this by His imputed and His imparted
righteousness.
• The law (spiritual thermometer) then witnesses to our
righteousness in Christ.
JUSTIFICATION
JUSTIFY
•Pardon and clear from guilt ; to
absolve or acquit from guilt and
merited punishment and to
accept as righteous on account
of the merit of the savior or by
the application of Christ’s
atonement to the offender
•To cause another
appear comparatively
righteous or less guilty
than one’s self
CONDITIONS FOR JUSTIFICATION
• 1. BLOOD OF JESUS – ROMANS 5:9
• 9 Much more then, being now justified by his
blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
• 2. GRACE OF GOD – ROMANS 3:24
• 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
• 3. FAITH OF MAN – ROMANS 5:1
• 1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
• FAITH –HEBREWS 11:1,6
• 1 Now faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen
• 6 But without faith it is impossible to
please him: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him
• Faith is a gift – Ephesians 2:8
• 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
• Faith is given to all – Romans 12:3
• 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me,
to every man that is among you, not to think
of himself more highly than he ought to think;
but to think soberly, according as God hath
dealt to every man the measure of faith.
•Genuine faith has foundation in
the scriptures – Romans 10:17
•17 So then faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by the
word of God.
Classical example of true faith-
Matthew 8:5-10
• 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a
centurion, beseeching him,
• 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously
tormented.
• 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
• 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou
shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant
shall be healed.
• 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to
this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to
my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
• 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed,
Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH
• Matthew 5:16
• 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven.
• Christ is the source of our righteousness –
Jeremiah 23:6
• 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall
dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall
be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
Christ will cover the filthy garment of sin
in us – Isaiah 61;10, Zechariah 3;3-4
• 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in
my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a
bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride
adorneth herself with her jewels.
• 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood
before the angel.
• 4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him,
saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he
said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I
will clothe thee with change of raiment.
2 types of righteousness –
Romans 10:3, Philippians 3:9
• 10:3 For they being ignorant of God’s
righteousness, and going about to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted
themselves unto the righteousness of God.
• 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine
own righteousness, which is of the law, but
that which is through the faith of Christ, the
righteousness which is of God by faith:
Human righteousness is filthy
rag- Isaiah 64;6
•6 But we are all as an unclean
thing, and all our righteousnesses
are as filthy rags; and we all do
fade as a leaf; and our iniquities,
like the wind, have taken us away.
Human righteousness expresses itself –
Luke 18:11-14
• Parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector
• 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank
thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even as this publican
• 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
• 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much
as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God
be merciful to me a sinner.
• 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather
than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be
abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Israelites sought righteousness by works
of the law and not through faith –Romans
9:31-32
•31 But Israel, which followed after the
law of righteousness, hath not
attained to the law of righteousness.
•32 Wherefore? Because they sought it
not by faith, but as it were by the
works of the law. For they stumbled at
that stumblingstone;
• We should seek righteousness- Matthew
6:33, Zephaniah 2;3
• 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of
God, and his righteousness; and all these
things shall be added unto you
• 2:3 Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the
earth, which have wrought his judgment;
seek righteousness, seek meekness: it
may be ye shall be hid in the day of the
LORD’S anger.
Love of God brings obedience not
conformity to the law –Romans
1:5, 16:26
• 1:5 By whom we have received grace and
apostleship, for obedience to the faith among
all nations, for his name:
• 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the
scriptures of the prophets, according to the
commandment of the everlasting God, made
known to all nations for the obedience of
faith:
WORK TO ACCOMPANY
FAITH
• Those who do what the law requires are
justified-Romans 2:13
• 13 For not the hearers of the law are just
before God, but the doers of the law shall be
justified.
• Faith without action is dead – James 2:26
• 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead also
Genuine faith is
accompanied by works
• Disobedience destroys faith – James 2;10,24,
Ephesians 4:28
• 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and
yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
• 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified,
and not by faith only.
• 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let
him labour, working with his hands the thing which
is good, that he may have to give to him that
needeth.
Justification does not set aside
the law –Romans 3:31
•31 Do we then make void the
law through faith? God forbid:
yea, we establish the law.
We should not sin and if we do we
shouldn’t fear because we have an
advocate in the heavenly court -1st
John 2:1
•1 My little children, these things
write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an
advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous:
•Christ righteousness remits sins of the
past – Romans 3:25
•25 Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past,
through the forbearance of God;
SANCTIFICATION
• The act of making holy. In an evangelical sense, the act of God’s
grace by which the affections of men are purified or alienated
from sin and the world, and exalted to a supreme love to God.
• God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through
sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. 2 Thessalonians
2:13; 1Peter 1:2.
• 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you,
brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the
beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the
Spirit and belief of the truth:
• 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,
through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling
of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be
multiplied
Christ’s death;
•Forgiveness of sins
•Restoration of human nature lost
through sin
•Re-beautify , reconstruct and
make it fit for the presence of
God
Condition for sanctification – Acts 26;18,
Colossians 2:5-6
• 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from
darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God,
that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and
inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith
that is in me.
• 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you
in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the
stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
• 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so
walk ye in him
Attainment of sanctification – 2 nd

Corinthians 7:1,2 Peter 1:5-11

nd
• 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from
all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
• 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue
knowledge;
• 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness;
• 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
• 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath
forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
• 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election
sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
• 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting
kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

commandments;
• 5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done
wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and
