EFFECTIVE COPING STRATEGIES

• Actually Coping strategies are the behaviors, thoughts,

and emotions that you use to adjust to the changes that
occur in your life. There are many coping styles that
people use, and some may prove more effective than
others, depending on the nature of the stressful
situation and the person who is employing them.

with stress? That’s why researchers have made a
number of recommendations for dealing with problem.
TURNING THREAT INTO CHALLENGE.
 Actually there is no universal solution of course. Since
effective coping depends on the nature of the stressor and
the degree to which control is possible. Still some general
guidelines can be followed.
1. Turning threat into challenge. When a stressful situation
might be controllable, the best coping strategy is to treat
the situation as a challenge. Focusing on ways to control
it. For instance , if you experience stress because your car
is always breaking down, you might take an evening
course in auto mechanics and learn to deal directly with
the car’s problem. Even it prove too difficult to do yourself,
at least you’ll be in a better position to understand what’s
wrong.
