Rules for making Singular to Plural
• The plural of nouns is usually formed by putting ‘s’ to singular noun.
Example: lamp lamps; cat cats
• Nouns ending with o, ss, s ,z, x , ch and sh form plural by putting ‘es’.
Example: dish dishes; church churches; box boxes.
• Nouns with consonant + y are made plural by putting ‘ies’. Example:
lady ladies
• Nouns with vowel + y are made plural by putting ‘s’. Example: day
days; boy boys
• Nouns ending with f or fe are made plural by putting ‘ves’. Example:
wife wives; leaf leaves.
• Exceptions: Some nouns ending with f or fe are made plural by
putting ‘s’. Example: chief chiefs; roof roofs; safe safes.

•We can’t add ‘s’ to an uncountable
noun.
• We can’t say ‘one rice’, ‘two rices’,
