The important of Family Engagement at curriculum night.

What we need to do before the School night?
• Prior to open house Send newsletter to all perspectives families.
• Provide the newsletter translated in their home language.
• Send reminder through robot call with their home language.
• Provide interpreter to the families speak different language. 
• Provide childcare for those have younger children.
• Update on the district website about the event. Example time driving
direction. 
Why do we need back to school night

• Families will have opportunities to give their perspectives.


• Teachers will share their expectation and way of communication throughout the
year.
• Teachers will create handout to share with families.
• Families will meet other families and make connections.
• Families feels welcome to walk their students footsteps.
• Families will receive resources about the School district.
• School personnel will have chance to introduce the school plan and the important
of family engagement.
When is we need to have school night
• It is important to have School night in the beginning of the school year
and throughout the year.
• It is visible for working parents to have the school night after work
hours.
• It is important to have month parent meeting to share about school.
• It important to have Family academy for those needs support learning
about school district.
• It is important to have events dad’s involve in students life. Example,
breakfast with dad and dad figure.
Who needs to participate on back to school night?
• Program managers- to welcome the families and introduce the school
• School principal- to introduce their role in the program
• Teachers – to introduce themselves and their classroom.
• Para educators- introduce themselves and their role
• Support staffs- introduce themselves and their role.
• Family advocators- introduce themselves and where their located in the building.
• Family engagement liaison. Introduce themselves and the important of family
involvement.
• Counselors. To introduce themselves and where they are located in the building.
Where we need to have the back to school night?

• At the local school.


• Start in the common area and break the group by grade levels.
• Explaining where things happening throughout the district.
• Where to find forms and resources.
• Introduce the school map so parents will navigate the gym, cafeteria,
bathrooms, lockers, classroom and offices.
What is Family Engagement?
• It is school/family partnerships.
• It is the collaborative interaction between educators and families .
•  It is  important activities that promote student learning and positive child and youth
development at home, in school, and in the community.
•  It is  necessary a two-way and meaningful communication between parents and
school personnel.
• It is inclusive and important to outreach to our diverse families; parent education;
staff professional development; volunteering; school decision making; and
advocacy. 
• Family Engagement is a shared responsibility which is continuous from Pre-
Kindergarten through grade 12 and reinforces learning that takes place in all settings.
Equality vs. Equity

• Equality is generic.
• Equality is group focus.
• Equality is equal.

• Equity is adaptable.
• Equity is individual focus.
• Equity is fair.
Family Involvement vs. Family engagement

• Parent involvement occurs when parents participate in activities and


take advantage of opportunities at their child’s early care and learning
setting. This usually means that parents attend meetings or special
events a program offers.
• Family engagement happens when early childhood professionals and
families engage in an interactive process of relationship-building. The
process is mutual, respectful, and responsive to a family’s language
and culture. Meaningful relationship-building is ongoing, and requires
time and attention.
