GREAT EXHIBITION OF 1851

AND 1859.
AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

The Great Exhibition was enormously influential on the


development of many aspects of society including art
and design education, international trade and relations,
and even tourism.

• The aim of this activities was to celebrate the new trend


of modern industrial technology andKORRA
design.

or The Crystal Palace
exhibition :-

• An international exhibition,
took place in Hyde Park,
London, from 1 May to 15
October 1851.

• Organized by Henry Cole
and prince albert
      ( h/o Queen  Victoria)

• "WORLDS CULTURE AND


INDUSTRIAL
TECHNOLOGY"
The crystal place :
• Architect :- Joseph Paxton's. 

• He got inspired by the amazon water Lilly Victoria

• Made by glass and iron.

• It got more than 14000 exhibitors around the


world .

• The structure was taken down and rebuilt at


Sydenham hill.

• The building used the area of 900 thousand


sq. ft
• Space was provided to display examples of technological
developments during industrial revolution.

•Joseph Paxton’s plan for the garden, fountains, terraces, small


waterfalls and other skills was very good, in this Crystal Palace
have many elm was planted, average approximately nine acres.
The Crystal Palace also has a lot of small fountains and waterfalls.

•In five months, from May to October 1851, six million visitors
throng the gigantic trade show, marveling over the latest
technology as well as displays of artifacts from around the world.

DESIGN TERMS IN CONSTRUCTIVE TECHNIQUES

•Firstly, in the items of the materials, the traditional earth, wood,


brick, stone was replaced by iron and glass. 
• Geometry of the crystal palace was a classic
example of the concept of form following
limitations.

• It especially a vast , flat roofed rectangular hall .

• Huge open gallery ran along main axis , with wings on


either side

• In November 1936 the Crystal Palace was tragically destroyed in


a spectacular fire. the Crystal Palace was made by iron and glass
which are building materials. When the light from the sun is
direct exposure on the Crystal Palace, it will initiate a fire and
the iron is not to receive a high temperature, it is easy to become
deformed.

•The Exposition Universelle of 1889 was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 6 May to 31 October
1889, It was the fourth of eight expositions held in the city between 1855 and 1937.

•Introduced 19th centuries famous constructions Eiffel tower and Galerie des machines.

•It attracted more than thirty-two million visitors

• It is 324 m tall
•Took 2 years 2months to build after designed
( 1887-1889)
•Actually meant to be a temporary structure that
would be torn down after serving as an
Entrance arch.
•Design was chosen from over 7000 different
proposals and faced 300 petitions.

SIGNIFICANCE:
• opportunity of the hosting nation to reinforce its nationalism and showcase technologies progress

•France demonstrated its artistic technologies and colonial superiority over other nations

•Also named ( exposition tricolor) referring the French flag and promote patriotism

•As shown by all the technologies innovations of the Paris 1889 world fair , it was very exciting time with
science and progress developing quickly .
