Communication within organization

 Communication can be defined as the

exchange of an information, thought and
emotion between individuals of groups
 Plays a vital role in structuring the
organizational activities, objectives,
company policies and strategies.
• Communication is an important mechanism
permeating the knowledge filter to facilitate the spill
over of knowledge and ultimately generate
continuous business trend through mutual
understanding of the means of relating to one
another in small and medium scale enterprises.

• Makes an important contribution to economic

growth, and creating an entrepreneurial
communication need has become a primary goal of
some business owners.
Challenge of communication
‘wise human’- homo- sapiens – ability to
communicate express our thoughts, ideas and views
to people around us.
People who have the great ability to communicate
are influential.
 Use every opportunity to practice your
communication skills.
 “when important occasions arise, you will have the
gift , style , the sharpness the clarity and emotions
to affect other people” - Jim Rohn.
Nature and scope (MC)
• MC managing people
• manage people at different levels –peers subordinates ,
bosses customers suppliers providers of services
• how we communicate becomes a critical issue.
Communicative competence is critical for managerial
success.
• Practice is not enough (unlike potatoes) people are
complex. Practice can improve skills but need to focus
on strategies if we want to win the hearts and minds of
the people we manage.
Communication – Challenge
• The way we communicate with others and with ourselves
ultimately determines the quality of our lives.
• (e.g) A farmer sorting potatoes-big-medium- small - depends on
the decisions.
• Making decisions are difficult in communications as well.
• The communicator has to arrive at strategic decisions before they
manifest themselves in words.
• If a manager speaks fluently/ writes clearly doesn’t mean that he
is a smart communicator.
• Choose a right/ appropriate communication strategy ( dynamic)
even if he has inadequate information about other's attitudes and
thought processes.
Communicative competence
Managerial success depends on
communicative competence.
Practice not enough- can improve the skills
need to focus on strategies to win the heart
& minds of people we manage.
Communication changes from context to
context & relationship with the person also
changes often.
Developing Communicative Competence

Try to gain insights into how we communicate.

What stops from doing a good Communication ?
 What can we do to minimize deficiencies?
Have good orientation, invest time and take
effort on effective communication .
Reflect systematically on the way we
communicate in specific contexts using specific
channels.
