Problem 2
Meredith is in training for the 2012 Olympics. She should swim at least
1,000,000 meters during 2009. How many laps of the pool will she need to swim
in order to swim 1,000,000 meters? How many laps should she swim each day?
Our Plan…
1. To calculate laps she swims in a day.
2. Then after we times it by how many days in a year.
Which is 2,740 x 365=
Working out the answer…

First you divide 1,000,000 by 25 (this is the length of the pool) which
makes 40,000.

Then you divide 40,000 by 365 (days in a year which makes 110)

110 laps for 364 days and for one day she swims 104 laps.
Our Solution!
So the answer would be 110 laps everyday and for just one day she
swims 104 laps. And there is the answer. 110 laps for 364 days and 104
laps for 1 day
How did we work it out?
We worked it out by first starting with 1,000,000.
Then we divided by 25 (the length of the pool). The answer
was 40,000.
Then we divided 40,000 by 365 (the days in a year) and we got
109. (we rounded it up to 110)
Then we calculated that she has to swim 110 meters for 364
days and for 1 day she has to swim 104 meters.
This is not the accurate answer but it is the approximate
answer. In all I think we did a pretty good job even though we
did not get the exact answer.
