Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place,
person or group to another. Every communication involves (at least) one
sender, a message and a recipient. These include our emotions, the cultural
situation, the medium used to communicate, and even our location.
The best definition of communication is - “communication is the process of
passing information and understanding from one person to another.” In
simple words it is a process of transmitting and sharing ideas, opinions, facts,
values etc. from one person to another or one organization to another .
PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION:
The process of communication refers to the
transmission or passage of information or message
from the sender through a selected channel to the
receiver overcoming barriers that affect its pace.
The process of communication is a cyclic one as it
begins with the sender and ends with the sender in the
form of feedback. Following figure can easily defined
the above definition.
Functions of Communication:
Instrumental. Used to ask for something.
Regulatory. Used to give directions & direct others.
Interactional. Used to interact & converse with others in a social manner.
Personal. Used to express a state of mind or feelings about something.
Heuristic.
Imaginative.
Informative.

COMMUNICATION CHANNELS.
Effective communication plays an important role in
business to inform and influence
behavior. Communication channels refer to the medium
you use to send a message, such as the telephone or
email. Effective communication requires selecting an
appropriate communication channel to send your
message. Communication channels include face-to-
face communication, broadcast media,
mobile channels, electronic communication and
written communication. These are the main
communication channel for the business organization.
