Review: Naming Integers
Using the Number Line
Draw a number line and
use it to identify the
integers described.
1)3 units to the right of 0
2)7 units to the left of 0
3)1 unit to the left of +5
4)3 units to the right of +6
5)6 units to the left of -2
a)What are the numbers
to the right of zero? Are
they greater than 0?
In general, is zero less
than all positive integers?
Why or why not?
b)What are the numbers
to the left of zero? Are
they less than 0?
In general, is zero greater
than all negative
integers? Why?
c)Can we say that 10 is
greater than -10?
In general, are all
positive integers greater
than negative integers?
Manny has a list
of numbers.
+7, -1, +10, +8, 0,
+3, -6, +1, -5, -9
Let’s Study This: He wants
to put the numbers in
order, beginning with the
smallest. How should
Manny arrange them?
Signed numbers like those
on Manny’s list can be
positioned and ordered on
a number line. The number
line can be helpful in
ordering signed numbers.

numbers in order.
+7, -1, +10, +8, 0, +3, -6,
+1, -5, -9
Answer:
-9, -6, -5, -1, 0, +1,
+3, +7, +8, +10.

comparing integers
Discuss the ff:
1.) Find +5 and +6 on the
number line. +6 is to the
right of +5; therefore, +6 is
greater than +5 or +6 > +5.
Also, +5 is less than +6 or
+5 < +6.
2.) Find -8 and -9. -8 is to
the right of -9;
therefore, -8 is greater
than -9 or -8 > -9. Also,
-9 is less than -8 or -9 <
-8.
3.) Find -2 and 0. 0 is to
the right of -2;
therefore, 0 is greater
than -2 or 0 > -2. Also, -2
is less than 0 or -2 < 0.

Pair-share:A. Insert < or > to
make each statement true.
1. -7___ -12
2. +8____ -8
3. +1____ 0
4. -15____ +3
5. -8____ -5
B. Arrange each of the
following in ascending order.
6. +6, +5, +7, +2 = ______
7. +6, 0, -6, +12 = ______

9. +9, -3, -12, +10, -2 = ___
10. -7.1, +5.4, -3.7, +4.1, -8.6
=______
On a number line, any number is bigger
than all the numbers to its left.
• The numbers get smaller as you move
to the left on the number line.
• Ascending means going up starts with
the smallest to the largest.
• Descending order starts with the
largest and goes down to the smallest.
A.Arrange each of the
following in ascending order.
1. -5, +8, -2, 0 ________
2. -12, +12, +7, -6 ________
3. -11, +10, +6, +5, -3 ___
4. 0, -6, -2, -10, +11 _______
5. -5.4, +2.2, +1.8, -6.3 ____
B. Arrange each of the following
in descending order.
6. -8, -4, +7, +2 __________
7. 0, -5, +12, +8 ________
8. -2, +14, -10, +5, -8 ______
9. -17, +3, -21, +9, -3 _____
10. -6.03, -6.3, +6.3, +6.003, +6.03
______
B. Write the integers that are
between the given integers.
1. -3 and +1 = ___________
2. 2. +6 and +10 = ________
3. -3 and -1 = ________
4. -10 and 0 = ____
5. 0 and 12 = _______
