Kurikulum sa
Pilipinas
Why Do We Need a Curriculum?
• A curriculum guides the
instructional lessons that teachers
use. A curriculum defines what
the learner will learn and can
possibly guide when the learner
learns the information from the
lesson.
National Elementary
School Curriculum
(NESC)
1984- 2002
 The first research-based curriculum in the
country.

 Fewer learning areas, emphasis on mastery

learning, more time allotment for the basic skills.

 Development of the learning competencies known

as the Minimum Learning Competencies (MLC)

 The mastery of learning was emphasized wherein

it is expected that the students will acquire the 75%
mastery of the listed competencies or 7 out of 10
questions in the formative test.
Secondary Education
Development Program

(SY 1989-1990 SEDP)

Why need to change the 1973 Revised
Secondary Education Program
On the basis of the findings revealed by a series of
institutional survey, a number of problems cropped up
among which were:
1.The multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary
approaches.
2.The desire to develop among students good work
attitudes fell of expectations;
3.The conceptual approach to problem solving in the
social sciences proved ineffective for learning the content
of social science subject, etc.
LEGAL AND OTHER BASES OF THE 1989
SEDP
The 1987 Constitution Article XIV Sec. 1 states
that :
“The State shall protect and promote the right of
all citizens to quality education at all levels and
shall take appropriate steps to make such
education accessible to all.’’ Article XV Sec. 1
which were cited in the previous chapters
expressly stated education-related constitutional
requirements serving as the primary legal bases of
the 1989 SEDP.
Cooperative Work Curriculum
- it was introduced during martial law when Secretary
Juan Manuel was the DECS Secretary. It is a work
oriented curriculum.
- it was intended for high school students in urban areas
to undergo on the job training in factories, shops, offices
and in rural areas to undertake farm works.
- It aims to equip high school students with more practical
skills needed in industry and agriculture to enable them to
get employment even before graduation.
- The essential trait of this is the more practical arts and
vocational courses were offered to students from first year
to fourth year.
FOCUS OF SEDP

1. Curriculum Reform
2. Quality Textbooks and Teachers manual on
1:1 ratio
3. Science and Work Education Equipment
4. Staff Development
5. Assistance to Private Secondary Education
6. Research studies on NCEE, barangay high
schools career guidance, etc.
The SEDP curriculum follows the constitutional
mandate as stated in Section 6 , Article 14 ,
The national language of the Philippines is
Filipino. As it evolves, it shall be further
developed and enriched on the basis of existing
Philippine and other languages.

Rationale for the SEDP “The 1989 Secondary

Education Curriculum ’’ “basic intellectual skills
and learning tools to continue learning and the
values for successfully living lives in the
society’’.

K to 12 Basic Education
Education

buong bansa.

-Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III

Konklusyon
Maraming kurikulum ang naipapatupad sa sistema ng
edukasyon sa ating bansa mapa-elementary man o hanggang
tersyarya. Ganum paman, iisa pa rin ang hangarin ng DepEd,
CHED at iba pang kawani ng goberno na nangangasiwa sa
edukasyon; ang linangin at ihanda ang bawat mag-aaral. Isa
