 Lift Your Eyes to the Lord
In Psalm 123:1-4, David wrote,
1. To Thee I lift up my eyes, O Thou
Who art enthroned in the heavens!
2. Behold, as the eyes of servants look
to the hand of their master, as the eyes
of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till He have mercy upon us.

3. Have mercy upon us, O Lord,
have mercy upon us, for we have
had more than enough of
contempt.
4. Too long our soul has been
sated with the scorn of those who
are at ease, the contempt of the
proud. A Song of Ascents. Of
David.

If the outlook in your life is disturbing, try

looking upwards. That's what David did.
“To Thee I lift up my eyes, O Thou Who art
enthroned in the heavens!” (verse 1) And
although he was King of Israel, his life was
not always a bed of roses!

What does it mean to lift your eyes to the

Lord? First of all, it means to acknowledge
His sovereignty. We lift our eyes because
He is higher than we are. Isaiah focused his
eyes on the throne of God and saw Him
"high and lifted up" in the temple (Isaiah
6:1).

The Lord is sovereign. He is the Master,
while we are the servants.
He is the Creator, and we are the created.
He is the Heavenly Father, and we are His
children.
He is the Potter, while we are the clay
(Isaiah 64:8).

Secondly, we admit His sufficiency.

"Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the
hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid
to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look
to the Lord our God, till He have mercy
upon us.” (verse 2)

We look to Him because of His sufficiency.

Whatever we need, He is able to provide.
"And my God will supply every need of
yours according to His riches in glory in
Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

Thirdly, when we lift up our eyes to the

Lord, we can accept His generosity. “Have
mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon
us!” David prays in verse 3.
God is generous, the Giver of every good
and perfect gift.

"If you then, who are evil, know how to

give good gifts to your children, how much
more will your Father Who is in Heaven
give good things to those who ask Him!”
(Matthew 7:11) The Lord will provide for
His children!
 Lift Your Eyes to the Lord

Acknowledge the sovereignty of God today.

He is in control. Recognize His sufficiency.
He can give you what you need for this day.
Then accept His generosity, and be grateful
and thankful. Our Father enjoys giving to
those who trust Him and glorify Him in all
that they do!
