• There are many way in which someone can be alerted of opportunities in employment within the
media sector some of which are.

• Networking: This is when someone interacts with others in order to gain and spread information and
also to gain and develop professional contacts. In this case it would be to get in contact with others
within the media industry and through them to gain insight into this industry weather that is available
jobs or other things that would be useful to know about the industry.

• Social Media: As social media is very prevalent in today’s society it is a place where information on
people, companies and places can be viewed. In relation to the media sector, many media companies
are on social media as a means of advertising themselves and this could help someone learn more
about the company and if any jobs are available.

• Word of Mouth: Word of mouth similarly to networking is based around communication and
learning of employment opportunities through communicating with others. This could be as

for a job they want filled and this is usually the easiest way to find and filter jobs specific to your

employment, some of which are

• Full time Contract: Being the most common type of employment contract a full time contract
is a contract which is generally offered for permanent positions and set out the employee’s

• Part Time Contract: The only difference between the full and part time job is the hours
worked, other than this the same statutory rights are shared by both contracts.

• Temporary: A temporary contract is a contract in which the employer and the employee agree
that the work will last for a temporary and specified amount of time.

• Permanent: A permanent contract is an indefinite contract in which where the employee is


employed by the company until they no longer desire to work their.

• Voluntary: Usually not a contract, this is when some one voluntarily takes a position usually
without pay.

• Freelance and Self Employment: This is when an individual is not under contract by a
company and works for themselves and offers their services to others.

• CV: A CV is a representation of your self on paper covering everything from academics,


experience, and personal self the CV is what an employer will look when deciding whether
or not to give the applicant the job.

• Portfolio: A portfolio is a collection of work that the applicant (You) have previously done
and this helps you find employment opportunities as it is a good way to showcase the
applicants skills and experience to the employer.

• Website: Similar to a portfolio a website could contain a collection of work that the applicant
(You) have previously done as well as information on yourself and this helps you find
employment opportunities as it is a good way to showcase the applicants skills and
experience to the employer and give them a better understanding of you as an applicant.

• Show Reel: A show real which could be featured on social media or a website help to again
show case your previous work to reflect your experience.

• References: References are very useful as they are further proof of previous experience and
helps impress the employer as someone with more experience and in a higher position is
speaking on your behalf.

• Self Presentation: The way in which you present you’re self during an interview is vital as it
gives the employer an idea of the type person you are and the level of seriousness and
commitment that you are taking in terms of the job that is on offer.

• Interview Techniques: This is basically like self presentation to do with the way you
compose you’re self during an interview e.g. eye to eye contact, language, body language,
the way you are sitting, etc.

• Education and training : Education and training helps increase opertunites and chances of
employment as it show that you have a deeper understanding of the field that you have chosen
to go into.

• Work experience: Work experience helps increase opportunities and chances of employment as
they show experience of being in a work place and this means that it shows that you can be in a
working environment.

• Work shadowing: Helps again show experience and like work experience more hands on
experience but the difference is that work shadowing is a more specific experience based around
the field you plan to go into.

• Continuing professional development (CPD): This is when you track and document any
experience or knowledge that you gain both formally and informally as you work and it is a
record of what you formally and informally experience.

• Updating records of employment: This helps increase you’re job opportunities as it helps show
case a wide range of experience as time goes on.
