Reasons of canal being polluted:

Increase of industries which led the waste into the canal.
Many new buildings were constructed and the discharge of
sewage into the canal.

Strategies followed to overcome problems:

 Installation of the fresh water flushing Tunnel.
 To construct three street-end public open spaces.
 Comprehensive community development plan.
 Dredging, and wetland and habitat restoration.
 Capping bottom surface layer of canal.
