Knowing More About the

High-Tech Profession
RADI LOGIC TECHNOLOGY
WHAT IS RADIOLOGIC
TECHNOLOGY?
It is an auxiliary branch of radiology which deals with the technical application
of radiation, such as x-rays, beta rays, gamma rays, ultrasound and radio
frequency rays, in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases
“People fear what they don't understand and
hate what they can't conquer.”

― Andrew Smith
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
WE ARE EXPOSED TO RADIATION EVERYDAY!
Hormesis; noun
hor·me·sis | \hȯr-ˈmē-səs
A theoretical phenomenon of dose-response relationships in
which something (as a heavy metal or ionizing radiation) that
produces harmful biological effects at moderate to high doses
may produce beneficial effects at low doses

-Merriam Webster-
IN LAYMANS TERM: Tiny doses of radiation are not harmful.
Some scientists even claim that low doses, by stimulating
DNA repair, make you healthier
WHO ARE THESE RADIOLOGIC
TECHNOLOGISTS?
They are  health care professionals who utilize
patient care skills and highly sophisticated
imaging equipment to deliver a controlled amount
of radiation, in the diagnostic area of the radiology
department, to detect foreign mater, bone
fractures, or pathological disease processes in
humans
when in hospital settings, they may be asked to take
images in areas such as  surgery, emergency rooms,
patient care floors and the morgue. Additionally, they
work with patients of all ages (birth through death) who
are in all stages of wellness, injury, and illness.
WHAT ARE THE AREAS OF
SPECIALTY IN RADIOLOGIC
TECHNOLOGY?
CONVENTIONAL X-RAY

MOST COMMONLY SEEN AND USE IN A RADIOLOGIC SET-UP, IT PRODUCES 2D IMAGES OF A BODY PART BEING EXAMINED.
ULTRASOUND/ ULTRASONOGRAPHY

Is a type of imaging. It uses high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body.
Health care professionals use it to view the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver, and other organs. During
pregnancy, doctors use ultrasound to view the fetus.
MAMMOGRAPHY

Mammography is the process of using low-energy X-rays to examine the human breast for diagnosis and
screening. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of
characteristic masses or microcalcifications.
COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY/ CT-SCAN

A CT scan, also known as computed tomography scan, makes use of computer-processed combinations of
many X-ray measurements taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional images of specific areas
of a scanned object, allowing the user to see inside the object without cutting.
MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING/MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the
anatomy and the physiological processes of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners use strong
magnetic fields, magnetic field gradients, and radio waves to generate images of the organs in the body.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty involving the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis
and treatment of disease.
PET CT-SCAN

This advanced nuclear imaging technique combines positron emission tomography (PET) and computed

tomography (CT) into one machine. A PET/CT scanreveals information about both the structure and function
of cells and tissues in the body during a single imaging session.
RADIATION THERAPY

Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiationto kill
cancer cells and shrink tumors.
