During our home visit nurse must carry community
bag with needed equipments.
Is a device or vehicle designed to carry all
equipments and materials needed during a visit to
the home, school or industry
The skills and knowledge in preparing and using
materials and equipments in the community health
bag for performing various nursing intervention
at home called bag technique.

 Purposes of bag technique:
•To prevent carrying of infection from one client to
another and from one place to another by keeping the
bag and its content as clean as possible
•To demonstrate the principles of cleanliness to client
and family members by using the bag in orderly ways
•To carry out selected procedures ,demonstrations ,
teaching ,and follow up services for patients and
family members
 Indications
•Provide antenatal ,intranatal and postnatal care to mother and
child
•Performing certain diagnostic procedures such as Hb testing,
IM injection at home ,,urine testing and AN examination etc,
for early detection of high risk cases and provide timely
treatment
•Provide emergency and first aid services in cases of accidents
and minor ailments
•Provide and demonstrate care in case of communicable
diseases
• provide follow up services
•Assess the need of individual and families and give health
education
 Description about Bag
• Usually bag made up of leather, canvas or light
material
• Material should be dark in colour, washable
and durable
• It should be stable should not collapse when
placed over surface
• Our institution bag Consist of rectangular
frame covered with black cloth (washable)
with a plastic handle.

 Points to remember
• The bag is needed during each home,
school or industrial visit
• All articles in the bag should be clean
• Bag should not soil
• Wash and disinfect all articles before
placing back in the bag
• Bag should not leave alone
• Should place on the news paper upon the
mat or table.
• Wash hand before taking articles from
bag
• If any article is required in between the
procedure hand must be washed
• Wash and replace bag after the posting
• Broken or missed article should replace
by students
• Carry the bag on your left shoulder,
bags opening side should face to the
person

Clean once a week and wash at least once a
month
